100 YEARS AGO IN TEXAS
...."The Archives_The excitement in
relation to the removal of the Ar-
chives from Austin, continues in the
western counties. Public meetings
are being held in Bastrop and Travis
counties, and the citizens almost to
a man have resolved to prevent by
force any effort to remove them. On
the 17th inst., a rumor reached Bas-
trop that Col. Wand has engaged
three teams, and agreeably to the
order of the President, • was prepar-
ing to transport them to Houston.
Early the next morning a party of
volunteers from Bastrop and tis vi-
cinity, well armed and equipped, rode
into Austin and declared, that as the
Archives were in danger they should
feel it their duty to protect them, and
consequently, should resist any at-
tempt on the part of the officers of
the government to take them away.
The teamsters finding they were like-
ly to get themselves into difficulty,
concluded that they would not risk
their teams, and thus the affair end-

DON’T LET
CONSTIPATION
SLOW YOU UP
e When bowels are sluggish — when you
feel irritable, headachy and everything
you do is an effort—do as millions of folks
do. Chew FEEN-A-MINT, the modern
chewing gum laxative. FEEN-A-MINT
looks and tastes like your favorite gum
—you'll like its fresh mint flavor. Simply
chew FEEN-A-MINT at bedtime—sleep
without being disturbed — next morning
gentle, effective relief. You’ll feel like a
million, full of your old pep again. A gen-
erous family supp’y of FEEN-A-MINT
costs only 101.
World War II finds the United States well supplied with wheat,
says the U. S. Department of Agriculture. At the chart indicates,
the supply is double that of 1917 when America entered the first World
War. It is estimated that on July 1, the Nation’s supply will be nearly
1V4 billion bushels, enough for two years of domestic use. Instead of
plowing up new land and expanding wheat acreage, farmers are able
to use land, labor, and equipment in turning out other war commodi-
ties more vitally needed—such as dairy, poultry, and meat products,
vegetables, and oil crops.
Wayr.e Gard, of Dallas, biographer
of Sam Bass, notorious Texas outlaw,
will speak at. the annual high school
press section of the Interscholastic
league meet at the University of
Texas, May 9. Mr. Gard is an edi-
torial writer for the Dallas Morning
News.
