folks out at Quihi are going to be
ready to serve up some of the best
homemade cooking you've ever had
set before you
Heaping plates of sausage, potato
salad, slaw, beans and bread, along
wit h dessert and coffee or tea, enough
to satisfy even the biggest appetite,
will be served by the members of the
Quihi's Bethlehem Lutheran Church
at their annual Sausage Supper
Saturday, October 12
After you’ve finished eating, the
ladies of the church invite you to visit
their Bazaar There will be all types
of handmade items and canned and
baked goods offered for sale
For the youngsters, there will be a
fish pond and coke booth.
Everyone is invited to stay a while
and visit with old friends, make new
ones, or just relax for a minute and
enjoy the crisp, autumn evening

KofC plans weekend drive
The local and state councils of the
Knights of Columbus in Texas will
conduct their first annual Fluid
Raising Campaign in communities
throughout the state, including Hon-
do, to raise funds for deaf children
and adults.
The drive will be held on Friday
and Saturday, Oct. 11 and 12. The
Knights are urging all citizens to
support this important activity by
making a donation to any of the
Knights of Columbus volunteers.
Governor Mark White and Mayor
A. Patterson have signed prodama
tions setting aside the two days as
“Knights of Columbus Days for Deaf
Charities.”
In Honor of the Knights of
Columbus drive will be coordinated

Learn to tailor, save money
Save money on expensive family
clothing items by learning tailoring
techniques. A four-season workshop
will be presented by the Texas
Agricultural Extension Service.
The first session will be Wednes-
day. Oct 23 Topics to be discussed
are selection of appropriate fabric,
interfacing and patterns, and notions.
Participants can purchase fabric and
supplies after the first session.
Each session will begin at 9 JO a m.
at the conference room at the Medina
County Fair Hall and end at 2:30 p.m.
Participants are asked to pre-register
by calling the County Extension office
at 426-2233. Registration for the
four-week session will be $12

Students invited to enter essay contest
The Hondo Garden Club will
sponsor an essay contest available to
all high school students this month.
The specified topic for entries is
"Worldwide Gardening - Our Chal-
lenge,’and it is suggested that essays
address our global food problem and
some possible solutions.
Awards range from $5 for local
recognition all the way up to a $500
scholarship which will be given for
the essay judged best by the National
Council of Garden Clubs
Entries should be typed, double
spaced; include the name and address
of the author; and should be 500-600
words in length. The judging will lx-
based upon content, composition,
clarity and neatness.
Essay contest deadline is Novem-
ber 1, at which time all entrants
should submit their compositions to
the Hondo Garden Club, c-o Mrs L.S
