Vote canvassed, bids opened

The votes in Medina County for
the Nov. 4 genera! election became
official this week, as County Com-
missioners canvassed the returns
and noted only a few minor errors
of addition.
No vote totals changed for local
races, the most closely watched of
which was that for Pc'. 3 Justice of
the Peace, won 1,205-1.033 by
incumbent Republican George
Ernst ovel challenging Democrat
Irma L. Torrez
Torrez was present for the
canvassing, which covered part of
the morning and afternoon during
Commissioners' regular session
Monday.

(D Hams. 296-129 for Ernst), No. 2

Bid opening
In other action, Commissioners
opened bids for purchase of a front
end loader and a pneumatic roller for
Precinct 3 (Com Henry Santos)
Various bids were received on
both pieces of equipment from six
providers Holt Machinerv Co.
Kuenstler M.tchinerCo. Anderson
Machinerv Co, Plains Machinery
Co. and Ingram Machinery Co., all
of San Antonio.
Apparent low -bidder for the loader
was Kuenstler, with a price
(including trade-in and discount) of
$39,975 on a new Case model *
Low bid on the roller was $27,657
from Plains (including trade-in) for
a new Dresser model
Commissioners voted to accept
all the bids received, but deferred a
decision for purchase.
Prices ranged up to $52,148 for a
new Caterpiller loader from Holt,
and $40,755 for Holt's new Cater-
pillar roller. Kuenstler also offered
$18,500 on a used Case roller,
while Plains also bid a used
machine for $15,000.

for benches and lights in Memorial Square, the project
designated last year as one of the Sesquicentennial
commemorative projects sponsored by the committee. The
benches and lights have arrived and will be installed as time
permits by city crews.
CONSERVATION LEADERS The regular
meeting of the Medina Valley SVVCI) took
place after a barbeque lunch served by the di-
rectors. From the left are Harold Bryant,
District Conservationist, Betty Mund. Dis-
trict Secretary. and Directors. Tommy

vine, Franklin Muerv.ink of Hondo, William
