The Hondo Volunteer Fire De-
partment [HVFD] held a monthly
training meeting July 26, 1990, at
the Hondo Fire House; 28 members
were in attendance. The training
keeps the department ready to fight
fires and benefits the City of Hondo
and surrounding areas.
This evening we spent most of
our time at the HFS # 2 checking
the trucks and associated equip-
ment for proper operation.
Our /4**m*1 Stout "Dtutct A Cur
«W will be held on August 18,
1990. The finance chairman passed
out the HVFD raffle tickets this
evening. Tickets for our raffle
drawing can be obtained from any
member. We will be giving 12
prizes, donated by various local
businesses, at the raffle drawing af-
ter the bingo game.
The business assignments for the
bingo prize donations were not
ready to pass out before most of the
members had gone home for the
evening. The assignments were
given to given to bingo chairman
Dwayne Hinze. AH members who
have not yet been given their busi-
ness assignment are requested to go
by City Auto Supply and pick up
the same.
We have on record 234 active
businesses in Hondb'{five more
than last year) and 40| (five less
than last year) active members for
an average of six businesses as-
signed to each member.
All of the 234 businesses in Hon-
do, except for the 12 businesses
who donated raffle prizes, should
be contacted by a HVFD member
for bingo prize donations. If you
own a business please start consid-
ering what prize your business
would like to donate for our /4hh*c-

Four HVFD members attended
the 61st Annual Municipal Texas
Fireman's Training School, at Tex-
as A & M University during the
week of July 22-27, 1990. Fire
Chief Ray Lutz attended Fire Pre-
vention I, Cam Munk attended Res-
cue, Mario Reyes and Scott Cono-
ver attended Fire Fighting I.
The HVFD has access to the U.S.
Department of Commerce National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Adminis-
tration [NOAA], Hazard Materials
Response Branch’s Computer-
Aided Management of Emergency
Operations [CAMEO™] program
and database via my company. Da
Poma.
My company has set aside about
IS Megabytes of harddisk space to
hold the information and has a mo-
dem for the electronic communica-
tions described below. This pro-
gram runs on the Apple Macintosh
computer as a HyperCard based da-
tabase and was sent to the depart-
ment at “gratus” by NOAA.
Just last week I received the
HVFD’s account name and pass-
word and instructions for using the
NOAA/HAZMAT electronic com-
munications network, hosted by a
Prime computer system in Seattle,
Washington.
One of the sections of this com-
munications network is the CAM-
EO bulletin board, a clearinghouse
for items of interest to the users of
the CAMEO program. The topics
include: Questions and answers re-
lated to the implementation of
CAMEO; Descriptions of incidents
where CAMEO has been used; and
CAMEO inquiries and demonstra-
tions.
Remember 'WE STILL MAKE
HOUSE CALLS' and the number
to report a fire emergency is 426-
3232.
