Sewer line construction gets
underway, more work considered
New sewer line construction is be-
ginning on 17th Street and the City
of Hondo is hoping to keep any in-
convenience to a minimum.
Saw cutting has begun and will
continue through the remainder of
this week. Initial underground con-
struction will begin at 17th St. and
Ave. F, according to City Manager
Scott Wall.
Barricades will be set up and resi-
dents are urged to be aware of the
detours. For your convenience,
please use an alternate route when
possible. Your patience is appreciated
as this project progresses.
The city proposes to extend the
project along 17th Street from Ave.
K to the alley west of Ave. M and in
the alley between 15th and 16th
streets from Ave. J. to Ave. H. These
improvements will be adjacent to
other sewer line improvements al-
ready under construction as part of
the 1994 Texas Community Devel-
opment Program.
A public hearing on the subject has
been set for Monday, Mar. 18,8 p.m.
A second public hearing, set for
8:30 p.m., will discuss submission of
an application for a Texas Commu-
nity Development Program Commu-
nity Development Fund grant.
Application for water line im-
provements for the avenues A and B,
15th and 16th street area in the north-
east; 15th, 16th, and 17th street area
between avenues W and U in the
northwest; and Avenue R, 11th, 12th
and 13th streets in the northern sec-
tion of the city in the amount of
$240,000. The application is avail-
able for review at City Hall during
business hours.

Notice section on-page 7.
Bonilla notes Republican
accomplishments at luncheon
Congressman Henry Bonilla addressed Medina County residents
during a luncheon at Hermann Sons Steak House over the weekend.
Bonilla noted his close ties to Medina County and recognized many
of the volunteers who have helped him during his time in office. Debra
Knapp Bonilla awarded Jeannine Guinn a carved elephant, the Republi-
can party symbol, for her tireless efforts as a volunteer in Medina
County. >.
During Bonilla's address he highlighted some of the outstanding
accomplishments the Republican congress has managed to pass in spite
of endless opposition in the White House.
"So far Congress has cut spending nearly 20 million dollars," Bonilla
said, "and continuing to turn the tide on big government, big spenders in
Washington, by cutting foreign aid 12%, reduced OCEA's budget 15%,
and slashed the EPA's funding 22%."
Republican County Chairman Ann Peden said the Republicans out
voted the Democrats during early voting for the first time ever. A total
of 338 GOP supporters voted
compared to only 215 Democrats
that cast their ballots during early
voting.
Congressman Bonilla attributed
the large turnout to the conserva-
tive tide which is sweeping across
Texas as more Lone Star Demo-
crats have defected to the right
than anywhere in the nation.

of April City-Wide Revival
Ministers and members of Hondo
churches are working, praying and
singing together as they begin prepa-
rations for a weeklong City-Wide
Revival. Everyone is invited to join
in this joint ministry sponsored by
Hondo Ministerial Alliance.
The Revival will be held Sunday
thru Friday, April 14-19, at the high

Rev. Josd Galindo, a missionary of
the General Board of Global Minis-
tries, assigned to the Rio Grande
Conference of the United Methodist
Church, will be the guest speaker.
Special guest speakers from other
denominations have been invited and
several have responded that they will
be attending this special event.
Mr. Galindo has been working
with the "colonias" of the South
Texas Rio Grande Valley.
"Anything that affects any human
being on this earth concerns God,"
he said. "What I enjoy the most of
ministry is the preaching and serv-
ing communion to colonia people.
Our main goal is to fulfill the spiri-
tual and physical needs of the people,
and it is here that we see the gospel
of Jesus Christ becoming flesh. This
is what the mission of the church is '
all about. Christ is the center of our
mission and will always be."
Mr. Galindo is a native of Jimenez,
Chihuahua, Mexico. He and his wife
Bertha have three adult children. I
