Rep. Pete Nieto
seeks re-election
i fer*-
p wr
Uvalde - State Representative Pete
Nieto today met the first challenge in
seeking re-election to the Texas
House of Representatives from Dis-
trict 43. He announced his candidacy
in the March 8th Republican Pri-
mary.
Nieto, elected in 1991, serves on
the criminal justice and the natural
resources committees, two panels
which handle issues critical to his
constituents.
Nieto became widely respected
during his first term in the Legisla-
ture because of his fierce independ-
ence, diligent work ethic and conser-
vative voting record.
His votes against higher taxes,
against the "Robin Hood" school
finance plan, and for term limitations
were preludes to Nieto's post-legisla-
tive session switch to membership in
the Republican Party.
"A am proud of my work on behalf
af the hard working men and women
of District 43.
»"By the end of the legislative ses-
Sk>n, it became abundantly clear to
me that to truly represent my con-
stituents in the most important issues
of our time, I would have to remove
myself from a party atmosphere that
demands that lawmakers frequently
vote against the best interests of their
people.
”1 am anxious to continue my
service to the people of our great state
and am looking forward to this re-
election campaign", Nieto said.
Nieto's battle to protect the prop-
erty rights of landowners in the
Edwards Aquifer has earned him
endorsements of the Texas and
Rep. Pete Nieto
Southwestern Cattle Raisers Asso-
ciation, and the Texas Farm Bureau.
His work to promote economic
growth has drawn the endorsement
of the Texas Association of Busi-.
ness, while both the Texas Medical
Association, and the Texas Hospital
Association have endorsed him for
this work to improve rural health
care.
"These important endorsements
have gotten our re-election campaign
off to a strong start and \ feel they
reflect our efforts to work hard for the
people of District 43”, Nieto said.
Nieto, 51 and his wife, Stephanie
have four children ages one through
eight. He and his family reside in
Uvalde where he practices law
District 43 includes Uvalde, Med-
ina, Zavala, Frio, Dimmit and part of
Webb Counties.

Centilli seeks Democratic
County Chair position
I, Margaret Centilli, am announc-
ing my candidancy for Democratic
County Chairperson of Medina
County.
I have been a resident of Medina
County for the past 30 years and a
resident of Texas all my life. I am a
graduate of Devine High School. I
got my Bachelor of Arts degree and
Master of Arts degree at Texas A&I
University in Kingsville. 1 have been
a teacher for the past 23 years and am
presently employed with the Poteet
independent School District as a
fourth grade teacher at the Elemen-
tary School.
For four years I was Democratic
County Chairperson for Medina
County. I took Sid Malone's place
when he resigned and won the term at
the next primary election in 1990.1
helped run three elections, one while
Sid Malone was County Chairman
and two others while I was County
Chairperson.
In 1992 I lost the position to Jim

Yvette Denise Paredes Gonzales

lege on Dec. 18 in San Antonio. She
received a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Interdisciplinary Studies with an
Elementary Education teaching cer-
tificate specializing in Reading Edu-
cation for grades 1-8.
Gonzales was a member of the
IWC Dean's List, National Deans
List of Kappa Delta Epsilon, and

leges and Universities.
Gonzales, who graduated from

cent R. Paredes of Castroville.
Ferguson of Hondo. On December 7,
1993 I was reappointed County
Chairperson by the Democratic
County Executive Commitce be-
cause of Mr. Ferguson's resignation.
I am presently getting ready for the
upcoming primary election by tak-
ing the candidates' applications and
filing fees, getting election judges
and voting places for the March 8
primary, and helping candidates get
their messages out that they arc run-
ning for office. I plan to continue
what I had started six years ago under
Sid Malone.
I plan to help make the Democratic
party a party that will get the best
possible people in office who care
for Medina County and Texas. We
need that kind of leadership to make
Texas a better state and keep her
economically sound. We also need
that kind of leadership in Medina
County to help keep this county
economically sound and growing.
Your support will be greatly ap-
preciated.
