Another big success is
how you would define our
Halloween party. Every-
one had such a nice time!
The residents enjoyed all
the children--there were
smiles everywhere.
We had such a nice
turnout; twenty-seven
children entered the cos-
tume contest. The judges
had a tough time cnosing
the winners, but they
finally managed to choost
In the adult portion of
the judging there was a
total of only six entries!
The adults must have
been a little bit chicken.
Judges for the contest
were three of our resi-
dents, Miss Mary Handly,
Mrs. Hattie Tyrone and
Mrs. Julia Ortiz. They did
a fine job.
Richard Dauwe, a resi-
dent of the Lodge, was
dressed as a clown. He
gave everyone a nice
laugh and really brighten-
ed up the home.
The sporiK house was the
biggest attraction of the
evening. Everyone enjoy-
ed the spooks hidden in
the closet.
Twenty two of the
residents enjoyed games
Monday here at the
Lodge
Many of the residents
attended he Church serv-
ices held by the First
Baptist Church. Thev
were Margaret Moore,

November, according to Mrs. John Faseler, is birthday
month for her family. Her own [never mind icAicA) is
scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 16th.
Son ELMER selected Nov. 10 for the date of his arrival,
probably with a prescient sye to the future Bills, maybe
even including the water bill are due on the tenth.
Three of Mrs. John F’s grandsons add an extra year this
month. The youngest of these is JOHNNY, who will be 8

prediction that Nov. 4 through Nov. 7 would be ' gloomy,

A special pleasure for me has been another visit in
Hondo where 1 arrived Saturday, Oct. 25, bringing along a
good rain all the way from the coast.
Sally said it was needed, so much so that she had let her
automatic sprinkler system give her lawn a good soaking
the day before
Saturday afternoon, while it was still “coming down
out," she was startled to see the water “coming UP out
Suddenly, she remembered that she had forgotten to cut
off the turner-on mechanism Might be proof positive of
Newton's theory of the law of lecen wet) gravity that all
that goes up also comes down -- or words to that effect.

A iMuisiana seafood vendor says he expects to sell some
,100,000 pounds of shark meat this year, |including the
Gulf’s sand and dog variety] as well as the whopper-sized.
Shark meat sells for about 75 cents a pound
All this because of the furor created by the “4 letter''

EUNICE |Mrs B. L] KOLLMAN had a happy
surprise recently.
One of her nephews, whom she had not seen since he
was ten years old, came to visit her - and, thereby hangs
this tale:
RICHARD TORRES, one of Hondo's efficient postal
clerks, was at Baptist Memorial Hospital, SA, where his
wife, Mary, recently underwent eye surgery. The resident
Chaplain is Ross Davis of Tatum, New Mexico, and the
son of Eunice's brother and sister-in-law, the CLIFF
DAVISES.
The Chaplain told Richard that he had an aunt Eunice
living in Hondo but he could not remember her surname.
Said Richard, “Oh, you must mean Mrs. Eunice
Kollman. Everybody knows that nice lady. She lives on
Tarplcy Road, just beyond the City Park "
A happy family reunion followed end Eunice is looking,
forward to many more between now and next June when
her nephew plans to complete work on his Ph.I). before
continuing his career.

Mr and Mrs. JOSE [Angelina] VENTURA are the
parents of JOE JR., an energetic young man who will be
two years old on March 22, 1976.
His father is a Gary employee. All his young son wants
to do at present is to ride in an HER grocery cart and help
his mother select what to place in it

LOTTIE 11A W can be glad that a New York lawyer and
self-styled ",avid reader” is not among the Hondo
Publ'C Library's patrons.
When checking a fire in his apartment building, firemen
discovered a cache of more than 15,000 N.Y. Public
Library books which the “owner" had taken over the last
ten years.
The stacks covered the stove, filled the bathtub and
sinks and were piled to the ceiling.
The man was a real book-keeper!

MANUEL TORREZ, 79, has been a Hondo resident
since 1931.
We exchanged greetings in the Anvil Office Equipment
Building as we checked the Book Nook section.
He said he was now retired and when I asked what his
former occupation had been he said, “I guess you can just
say that I retired from not working very hard," but I knew
that he had led a busy life and was just enjoying a more
leisurely retirement, as one should.

Mrs. HARRY (/ftn*y] SCHWEERS very kindly held a
door open for me as I was leaving one of our local stores
I thanked her and said “This should earn for yOu some
extra Brownie points. ”
Said she, “And I can sure use all the extra points I can
get!”
Most of us can, if they happen to come our way.
