Surviving holiday stress
Although the holidays are known
for bringing people together in the
spirit of joy, cheer and goodwill, they
are also recognized as the most hectic
time of the year. People are rushing
to get somewhere and then are stuck
in long lines to buy presents, food for
the holiday meal or just to get to their
final destination. It’s no wonder that
frustration and tension are becoming
synonyms for year-end celebrations
It happens to the best of us None
theless, it is important to practice
safety when you're behind the wheel
Stressed drivers with sore feet and
spent pockets can lead to a holiday
tragedy, when not concentrating on
the task at hand, Progre .sive Insurance
provides these tips to oil commuters
out on the roadways this season.
Going to grandma’s house.
• It’s best to leave early, allowing
more time to reach your destination.
• Make sure everyone has had
something to cat and drink before a
long drive Hungry or thirsty passen
gers can elevate stress levels when
you’re stuck in traffic.
• Do not speed, it causes stress for
you and other drivers, more so when
roads are congested.
Mall traffic
• Wear your walking shoes. Wher
ever you go, you will probably have a
long hike Irom your parking spot.
• Expect crowds You cm try to
dodge some ol this by shopping dur-
ing non-peak hours, such as week-
days.
• Don’t weigh yourself down with
packages. Make trips to the car to
store your purchases safely in your
trunk.
Parties should be approached re-
sponsibly.
• Appoint a designated driver and
keep an eye on him or her.
• Inquire about office policies pro-
viding car or cab service for employ-
ees attending a company affair. Tak-
ing a cab can be the best investment
you can make for yourself and others
• Attend gatherings that offer a safe
ride home.
• Never drink and drive.
