Holiday lighting contest
to be judged Dec. 14
Hondo Garden Club will again
sponsor the city’s annual Christmas
lighting contest.
Judging day will be Thursday, Dec.
14, beginning at dusk (weather per-
mitting). Anyone who wishes to have
their lighting display judged should
turn the lights on as it begins to get
dark. The judging committee mem-
bers will be driving around town,
looking at the lights.
As in the past, the city will be di-
vided in five sections forjudging and
awards will be presented after judg-
ing is completed.

you want to be sure is seen, call

During the weekly
meeting of the Medina
County Commission-
ers’ Court the new
County Clerk Elva
Miranda officially
took the minutes of the
meeting for the First
time. Miranda will be sworn in by
Medina County Judge David Mont-
gomery on Dec. 5.
• Commissioners denied approval to
close CR 2612 in Mico. A public hear-
ing was held during commissioners'
court on Nov. 13 to hear both sides of
the issue.
“I don’t see hoyv we can close the
road,” Commissioner Stanley Keller
said. “The Texas Transportation
Code says that we can not close the
road if the road has been used in the
past three years.”
“I don’t see how we can close it,”
Commissioner Royce Hartmann agreed.
“There was a protest at the hearing.”

lection of delin-
quent taxes be-
tween Medina
County and the
Law Office of
Henry Steed Jr.
of Austin.
County Tax Collector Assessor
Loraine Neumann praised the work
the law office had done over the past
years and recommended the county

in town today
A staff member from U S. Rep
Henry Bonilla’s office will be in
Hondo today (Thursday) to hold lo-
cal office hqurs at the Hondo City
Council chambers. Hours are from
9 a m. to 4 p.m.
Rene Geistweidt, Bonilla’s con-
stituent liaison based in San Anto-
nio, will staff the Hondo office and
will respond to requests for informa-
tion and work with residents of Hon-
do and the area on a variety of is-
sues including Social Security, vet-
erans’ concerns, immigration, pass-
port information, agricultural issues
and others.
