due in Freestone
Austin Texas--The Rail-
road Commission has
approved the application of
Texas Utilities Generating
Co. for a five-year permit to
conduct a lignite surface
mining operation in Free-
stone County, about ten
miles northeast of Fairfield
and immediately adjacent
to an existing lignite permit
area.
Today's approval by
Chairman John H. Poerner
and Commissioners James
E. (Jim) Nugent and Maclfc
Wallace is subject to Texas
Utilities' compliance with
more than 30 permit pro-
visions prepared by the
Surface Mining and
Reclamation Division.
Before a permit will be
issued, the generating com-
pany must file with the
Commission a certificate of

ance bond.
Texas Utilities’ surface
mining operation is
situated in an area
approximately one and one-
half miles wide running
north easterly from a point
three and one-half miles
northeast to a point ten
miles northeast of the city
of Fairfield.
In its application cover
ing the proposed 3,975 acre
permit area, Texas Utilities
indicated it expects to mint
> five to six million tons o:
lignite from approximately
410 surface acres per yeai
from an average excavatior
depth of 85 feet. The area is
adfacent to Texas Utilties
Big Brown fuel facility.
