On College Educations This Year
New York, Aug. 17 — Resi-
dents of Hardin County whose
sons and daughters will be
heading for college soon are
finding that the cost will be
greater than ever.
Colleges in all parts of the
country have raised their rates
again, citing their own increas-
ed operating expenses for fac- four-year private institutions,
ulty salaries, fuel, supplies and the average increase is $242,
maintenance,
The new rates, according to
figures obtained in a survey of
2,750 colleges and universities,
will boost the already high cost

mourning doves and half-day
hunting for whitewings has
been set by the Texas Parks
and Wildlife Department.
Jim Dunks at the P&WD said
mourning doves during both
the North and South Zone sea-
sons may be hunted from 30
minutes before sunrise to sun-
set. The North Zone dove sea-
son is set for Sept. 1-Oct. 30;
South Zone, Sept. 24-Nov. 6
and Dec. 31, 1977-Jan. 15, 1978.
Exception to the all-day
hunting hours is in those coun-
ties with a concurrent white-
wing and mourning dove sea-
son Sept. 3, 4, 10 and 11, when
the two species may be hunted
from noon to sunset.
Shooting hours during the
Sept. 10-18 teal-only season are
from sunrise to sunset. Rails
and gallinules may be hunted
from 30 minutes before sunrise
to sunset, Sept. 1-Nov. 9.
The later starting time for
teal hunting is to give hunters
ample light to distinguish teal
from other species of waterfowl
which might be moving

tember.
Officials at the U.S. Fish
and Wildlife Service notified
Dunks late Aug. 4 of the frame-
work for shooting hours of mi-
gratory game birds.
Litigation involving shooting
hours prevented the U.S.F. &
W.S. from providing Parks and
such frameworks at their July
22 meeting when dove seasons
were set.

The big problem is how to
pay for it. Many parents, espe
daily those with two offspring
going to college at the same
time, find themselves in a fi-
nancial bind as a result.
For Hardin County families,
based upon the number of local
youngsters who are college-
bound this year the added cost
will amount to approximately
$151,000.
The nationwide survey
shows, according to the College) Rev Ron Hasely will conduct

for resident students, compared)figures are about $500 lower,

laneous expenses and room
and board. ,
According to the latest esti-
mates, some 1,100 young men
and women from the Hardin
County area will be going to
clloge this year.
The total cost involved, for
local parents, is approximately
$3,785,000 This is based upon
the assumption that half of the
students will be going to pri
vate colleges and half to public
ones.
Because higher education has
become so costly, many young
people have had to change
their plans. Some are settling
for two-year rather than four-
year schools. Others have had
to forego college entirely, at
least for the present.

It’s that time of year when your electric bill next
month... will probably be higher than it was this
month.
The reason? Most likely the weather. Because the
hotter it gets outside, the harder your air
conditioning works to keep it cool inside. And all the
time it’s running, so is your electric meter.
It’s sort of like buying comfort. And the more you
buy the more you pay. Because your electric bill is
just an accurate account of how much electricity
you use. A reading from a meter right at your home.
Unfortunately, you can’t do much about the
weather. But you can help hold your bill down by
making sure your home is as energy efficient as you
can make it.
Visit the Energy Information Center
nearest you. It could save you
energy and money.
