Lady Hornets defeat
Hull-Daisetta in
Livingston tournament
LIVINGSTON-Goodrich fol-
lowed two rough rounds in the
Livingston Holiday Classic tourna-
ment with a victory over Hull-
Daisetta to close out the 3-day tour-
nament on a winning note.
The Lady Hornets, 3-13 for the
year, outscored the Lady Bobcats in
the first and third frames to finish
in front, 49-45.
Freshman Ashante McGowen
paced the Lady Hornets with 17
points, hitting five field goals and
7-of-10 free throw shots.
Seniors Bernadette West and Er-
ley Norman also pitched in double
digits, finishing with 12 and 11
points, respectively.
Pamela Roessler added six points
and Elicia Henderson tallied three
points to the winning cause.
Kati Brett was the top scorer for
Huli-Daisetta with 15 points, fol-
lowed by Rachel Myers with 12
points.

First round
The Class 1A Lady Hornets had
to play two Class 4A teams right
off the bat during action Monday at
Lion gym.
First round action pitted the
Lady Hornets against the Neder-
land Lady Bulldogs. Nederland
won handily, 68-31.
The Lady Bulldogs outscored the
Lady Hornets all four frames, 14-7,
19-12,154 and 20-8.
Top scorers for the Lady Hornets
were, Erley Norman, 12; Elicia
Henderson, eight; Ashante
McGowen, seven; Pamela Roessler
and Bernadette West, two points
each.
Nederland had eight players to
score, including three in double
digits. Katie Laser was their lead-
ing scorer with 20 points, followed
by Carrie Raleigh and Kim Solis
with 14 points each.
Goodrich finished with 11 field
goals and connected 9-of-17 from
the free throw line. The Lady Bul-
ldogs hit 30 field goals and made 8-
of-17 at the free throw line.
Second round
It didn’t get any easier for the
Lady Hornets in second round ac-
tion of the tournament. Goodrich
went up against Class 4A C.E.
King and lost 7144 to the Lady
Panthers.
Bernadette West led the Lady
Hornets with 14 points, followed
by Erley Norman with 10 points.
Others contributing for Goodrich
were, Elicia Henderson and
Ashante McGowen, seven points
each; and Pamela Roessler, six
points.

Hornets to play
for consolation at
Gulf Coast Classic
MONT BELVIEU-Port Arthur
Austin defeated the Goodrich Hor-
nets 72-64 in first round action of
the Gulf Coast Classic Tournament
held at Mont Belvieu on the cam-
pus of Barbers Hill High School.
The Hornets were trying to
defend the title for the third year in
a row. They won last year’s tourna-
ment by defeating North West
Academy 70-67. Goodrich had also
won the tournament a year earlier.
The Hornets bounced back fol-
lowing the first round loss and
defeated High Island (7140) and
East Chambers (77-60) to advance
to the consolation game scheduled

Port Arthur took a 20-19 lead af-
ter the first quarter, but fell behind
when Goodrich outscored them 17-
13 in the second to take a 36-33
halftime lead. The difference
turned out to be the third quarter
when Port Arthur outscored the
Hornets 30-20 to regain the lead
63-56. Port Arthur prevailed in the
fourth quarter (9-8) to record the
win, 72-64.
Goodrich (14-2 for the year) was
led by Brandon Garrett with 28
points, followed by Jeremy Ben-
nett, 18; Joe Henderson, eight;
Demetrius Garrett and B.C. Com-
pton, lour points each; and Romad
Bookman, two points.
Brandon Garrett also led the
team with 10 rebounds, followed
by Bennett with seven and Hender-
son with five boards. Bennett also
led the team with three steals and
two assists. Henderson was also
credited with three steals.
Brian Johnson and Peter Howard
led Port Arthur with 18 points each
Second round
Four Hornets scored double
digits to help carve out a 7140 vic-
tory over the High Island Cardinals
in second round action.
Jeremy Bennett was the top point
maker with 19, followed by Bran-
don Garrett, 18; Joe Henderson, 14;
B.C. Compton, 10; Josh Venson,
six; Demetrius Garrett and Romad
Bookman, two points each.
The Hornets top rebounders
were, Bennett with nine, followed
by Brandon Garrett and Joe Hen-
derson, dight apiece; Josh Venson,
seven; and Compton, six.
Henderson led the team with
three steals and Bennett had two as-
sists.
Josh Bcnn led the Cardinals with
15 points.
East Chambers
Brandon Garrett and Jeremy
Bennett combined for 52 points to
pace the Hornets to a 77-60 win
over East Chambers in third round
action.
Garrett led with 27 and Bennett
was runner-up with 25 points.
Others to pitch in were, Toe Hen-
derson, 12; B.C. Compton, six;
Josh Venson, five; and Tim Grant,
two points.
Garrett also led the team with 12
rebounds plus had two assists. Ben-
nett was the top assist maker with
nine, plus had three steals.

Little Darlings will be held Tuesday and
Thursday (January 5th & 7th) at the
Livingston Elementary School Cafeteria.
Registration will be from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.

two age divisions:9-10 year olds (Juniors)
and 11-12 year olds (Majors).
