NORFOLK, VA. - Navy Petty
Officer 3rd Class Steven H
Marsh, a 1996 graduate of Living-
ston High School, recently par-
ticipated in Operation Desert Fox
while assigned to the guided mis-
sile destroyer USS Stout, cur-
rently deployed to the Mediterra-
nean Sea and Arabian Gulf as
part of the USS Enterprise Battle
Group.
During the operation, U.S.
forces launched attacks on mili-
tary installations in Iraq. The at-
tacks were made after Iraqi Presi-
dent Saddam Hussein's refusal to
allow UK teams to inspect Iraqi
installations for weapons of mass
destruction. President Hussein
constantly denied inspectors ac-
cess to facilities which could
house or manufacture such weap-
ons in Iraq.
Home ported in Norfolk, Va.,
Marsh’s ship is one of the most
powerful warships ever put to sea.
The computer-based AEGIS
weapons system is the heart of
the ship's war-fighting capability.
It centers around a powerful radar
that enables the crew to detect,
track and fire on more than 100
targets at a time.
He joined the Navy in May
1996.
