E-Z Mart Buys 10
Bell 7-11 Area Stores
Bell Oil Co., Inc., of Texas
and Louisiana today announced
the sale of 10 of its convenience
store properties to E-Z Mart
Stores, Inc., headquartered in
Texarkana, Texas. The an-
nouncement was made jointly
by Shirley Bell, chairman and
chief executive officer of Bell
Oil, and Jim Yates, president of
E-Z Mart.
Bell Oil currently owns 21
Texas and Louisiana con-
venience store properties oper-
ated under the Bell's 7-11
name. "We will retain owner
ship of 11 of our stores, four of
which are presently being
operated under lease agree-
ments," said Shirley Bell. “The
E-Z Mart purchase will allow us
to concentrate on development
of our business-owned real
estate holdings and expand our
hardware and washateria oper-
ations," she continued.
Bell Oil has three hardware
operations located in Vidor,
Lumberton and Kountze. They
plan to build two more within
the next two years, including
extensive development of their
company-owned property in
Ravburn Country.
“We are really excited about
the future of our company,"
said Bell. “We have wanted to
develop these special interests
for a long while and now have
the time and resources avail-
able to do just that. It’s a new
direction we are very anxious
to pursue."
According to Bubba Kirk-
land, division manager of E-Z
Mart, the 10 store purchase
was a natural fit for E-Z Mart.
"We already had six stores in
the Beaumont area and wanted
to expand our operations in this
part of Southeast Texas and
Southwest Louisiana. The
Bell's 7-11 stores nicely fit our
purchase pattern and allows us
to strengthen our presence in
the market."
E-Z Mart plans to build three
locations and remodel the
others with new gasoline facili-
ties including canopies, check-
out counters and lighting. “We
plan to add fountain and frozen
drinks as well as hot to-go
sandwiches,” Kirkland said.
“Most stores will be converted
to a 24-hour operation in the
future,” he continued. “This
will provide additional local
jobs both in the construction
and remodeling phase as well as
staffing for our extended hours.
When we come into a com
munity we like to feel we’re not
only providing a service but an
employment opportunity as
well. TKe existing staff will
continue to provide operational
assistance and we’ll be hiring
local people to complete our
build and remodel program."
With the purchase. E-Z Mart
will be operating 212 conven
ience stores in Texs, Arkansas,
Louisiana, Oklahoma and Mis
souri.
The 10 stores affected by the
agreement include eight Texas
locations, two inBeaumont,
Silsbee and Orange, and one in
Rose City and Vidor, and
Louisiana locations in Sulphur
and Lake Charles.
Bell Oil will continue owner
ship of eight Texas stores and
three Louisiana stores.
