Through the deadline of
March 27 1964 a total of
1287 eligible producers signed
an Intention to Pai'ticipatc in
the 1964 Feed Grain Program
in Bell County. These produc-
ers agreed to divert a total of
35424 acres from the produc-
tion of Feed Grain in 1964.
This acreage represents 43
percent of the base acreage on
participating farms. The com-
puted payment on acreage di-
verted amounted to $607015.
In 1963 a total of 1361
farms participated in the pro-
gram and diverted 31049
acres from the production of
feed grain. Under the program
feed grain is defined as grain
sorghum corn and barley.
The U. S. Department of
Agriculture has announced
that shorn wool payments for
the 1964 wool marketing year
to bring the average wool
price of 48.5 cents per pound
up to the previously announced
incentive level of 62 cents per
pound under the National Wool
Act will amount to 27.8 pei-
cent of the dollar returns each
producer received from the
sale of shorn wool during the
period from April through De-
cember 1963.
This resulted in an incentive

program. This compares to a
payment of $30.00 per $100.00
of marketings for the 1962

USDA also announced a
payment rate of 54 cents per
hundredweight on unshorn
lambs to compensate for the
wool on them. This payment
rate compares to 57 cents per
hundredweight for the 1962
marketing year.
Payments for Bell County
have been comnnted and mail-
ed. Checks totalling $13399.-
66 were mailed to eligible wool
producers and the computed
payments on unshorn lambs
amounted to $1652.46.
No payment will be made
on Mohair sold in the 1963 1
marketing year because the
average price of 88.1 cents per
