COLORFUL ADDITION - For lawn and
landscape enhancement, Lake Livingston
Travel and Trailer offers a collection of
There’s a colorful new sight as you drive between Liv-
ingston and Onalaska these days. There on the south side
of U.S. 190 is a collection of a unique product: works of
art in painted concrete.
Just in time as many homeowners re-think and re-do
their landscaping, there are sculptured concrete forms
for varied tastes. Water fountains, some inhabited by
suitable concrete creatures, abound for those who like
the airy freshness of a cascade of water in some nook in
their landscape. But there are are other forms less or-
dinary, less expected.
There are large concrete baskets, perfect for use as a
flower planter, as well as other planters and flower bed
borders for the gardener in us all.
Concrete wagon wheels were never meant to hold a
wagon, but they can add a hint of nostalgia outside any
home.
“We’re particularly proud of our wagon wheels,” said
Bill McGregor, owner of Lake Livingston Travel
Trailers, where the concrere forms are located just out
front where they can be seen by passing tourists and
other travelers. Some of the concrete products, especial-
ly the variety of stepping stones, are made by McGregor
locally, but most of the items are hand-painted products
from the Ozarks at Branson, Missouri. Given their great
weight, McGregor has had to haul them here a few at a
time, but given their unique flavor and appeal, he thinks
it’s worth it.
That doesn’t mean that they are all huge forms. They
range in size from miniature figures a few inches high to
fairly large classical statuary, fountains and bird baths.
They can also get concrete deer forms, either lifesize or
miniature. There are many, varied animal figures,
many lifesize, such as squirrels. Some are for placing on
the ground, and others are designed to attach to a tree as
painted and un-painted concrete forms on
their lot three miles east of Onalaska on U.S.
190.
if they are climbing a tree trunk. Another attractive
item is the plexiglass butterfly that may be attached to
the side of a building or the trunk of a tree.
I^ake Livingston Travel Trailers is the headquarters in
this area for U-Cart Concrete Systems, which is the
reason the firm has been active in providing popular
lawn decoration forms. Some of their stepping stones
are octagonal, Texas-shaped, slice-of-log, and crescent,
for example. They even have some in the shape of an
18-inch sand dollar. They also make custom stepping
stones and can put one’s address or any other message
on them.
U-Cart provides concrete to go and can provide a
trailer to haul from a quarter yard to one and a quarter
yards.
McGregor says that U-Cart is the answer for do-it-
yourself home owners for small jobs such as patios,
walkways and curbs, as well as by contractors, by public
utilities and many others whose projects warrant this
service.
The concrete is a normal 5-bag mixture, but it can be
mixed to extra strength if desired. It also contains an in-
gretient that prolongs drying time.
The system, which is sold nationwide by U-Cart Con-
crete Systems, Inc., provides small amounts of ready-
mixed, wet concrete with small U-Cart trailers which
are attached to the customer’s car. The new U-Cart
ready mix concrete service is the only one of its type in
the Lake Livingston area.
Lake Livingston Travel Trailer Lot No. 1 is on U.S. 190
just east of Onalaska, and Lot No. 2 is on U.S. 59 a mile
south of FM 1988 at the Goodrich blinking light.
They are open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday
through Saturday. For more information, come by or
call Ixit No. 1 at 646-5471 and Lot No. 2 at 365-3300.
