Asteroid Fragments
Scientists at the University of
California, Davis believe they
have identified fragments o/ an
asteroid that some scientists say
collided with earth and triggered
the demise of dinosaurs 65 mil-
lion years ago.
The findings, reported by Stan-
ley V. Margolis, a geochemist and
UC Davis professor of geology
and graduate student Eric F.
Doehne.
After two and a half years of
painstaking microscopic analyses
of sediment grains from an an-
cient seabed in Zumaya, Spain,
Margolis and Doehne say they
have found particles whose chem-
ical composition and structure
point to extraterrestrial origins.
