Sdwol Building laipected
Strawn, Tex., 6 4, 1943.
Dr. J. W. Simmons:
Dear Sir:—At your request I
came to Strawn and made a thor-
ough examination of your school
house. I find it in very bad con-
dition and have come to the fol-
lowing conclusion:
I don't think the building is in
a dangerous condition at present,
but without a whole lot of repairs
will soon become sor I would re-
commend, and think it best, that
as the building was so poorly
constructed when built, and that
it would cost so much to repair
it and keep it in repair, it will be
money saved to the community
to tear it down and use the good
material in a new building. Also
the stairs are bad anti dangerous!
in case of lire in their- present
condition. Should you decide to
repair instead of building a new
building, the southwest corner
should be torn down and new
foundation deeper in the ground,
then rebuilt. Would also recom-
mend that you have six three-
quarter-inch rods placed just in-
side the walls on the south and
west. All of the brick above the
openings in the basement need
to be torn out and an angle iron
placed above the frames to hold
the brick in place. Also the ma-
jority of the outside walls should
be repointed with cement mor-
tyr. Also find several bad leaks
in roof. And the plaster in the
majority of the rooms need patch-
ing. Also some of the ceiling is
in bad condition. And lots of the
window frames will have to be
anchored back to the walls. The
guttering is in bad condition and
allows the water to escape on the
walls and is very damaging to the
building. I estimate it would
take about $2,500 to put the build-
ing in passable repair.
In conclusion, I feel like I
ought to say that it will be to the
best interest of the community
to tear the present structure
down and, replace it with a new
one. For if you did make the
above repairs suggested, it would
be of only a few years duration.
Respectfully submitted,
v J. B. Nitschke,
State Inspector of Masonry Pub-
lic Buildings and Works.

The subject for the month was

We had Bro. Wycough with us,
who read an interesting article
on “Turkey—What the Ameri-

We were glad to have several
other visitors with us.
The subject for next month is
to be, “Educational and Indus-

We take pains to put everything as low as the cost mark will let
us and the consequence is that we have a low price sale on the
year round.
Reason the matter out. If you can save money by buying from
us, won’t it be to your interest to try us out?
And listen to this. If we promised to save you money and then
failed to do it, would you believe us again? And if we failed to
keep our promise it would ruin our business eventually. We
have to be square.
