Granger Bartlett
Receive Halloween
Homecoming Scare
Granger and Bartlett both
brought some goblins to the
homecoming game here Friday
night and though they scared
heck out of each other neither
team could win and they tied
12-12.
All of the scoring action came
in the first half with 18 points
made in the second period.
Granger got the final scare
when a Bartlett end dropped a
sure touchdown pass in the end
Hone on the game's final play.
Granger scored first on a 47
yard drive following an anemic
Bartlett punt. Bartlett blocked
n Lion punt to set up its first
score from the four and scored
again on a 44 yard drive with
1:48 left in the half and an ap-
parent safe lead. It wasn't as
Granger came back and scored
with six seconds left. None of
the extra point tries were good.
The game was about as close
as the score indicated as Gran-
ger got 145 yards rushing and
the Bulldogs n yard less. They
both threw 20 passes and
Granger completed 8 for 83
yards. The Bulldogs completed
7 for 71.
Bartlett had 16 first downs
and Granger 13. The punting
fumbles lost and penalties were
about even. Granger intercepted
two passes but neither led to
anything.
Bartlett took the opening
Irickoff back to the 36 and made
two first downs before James
Svehlak recovered a fumble on
the Bartlett 45. Granger made
two firsts but Bartlett held and
took over at the 26. After a
first down a 12 yard Bartlett
punt carried only to the 47 and
Granger scored after three
firsts with Svehlak hitting left
guard for the final yard. A run
for the points at the middle
failed.
Gentry Powell returned the
kickoff to the 39 And Bartlett
made two first downs before
David Kerlin intercepted at the
Granger 15. On fourth the
hlocked punt was picked up by
William Foster and moved to
the four.
Sam Davis hit center for the
final yard and a pass for the
points was no good.
Granger returned the kickoff
to the 35 but failed to punt on
fourth and the Bulldogs took
over at the 44 made two firsts
and Eonald Mayse sneaked the
final yard to score. Autry Gray
was caught on a right end sweep
on the point try.
Only 1:48 remained when
Granger moved the kickoff to
the 41. but after three first
downs moved to the five and
Svehlak scored. A pass for thej
points was no good.
The last half became a punt-
ing duel when half of the 10
possessions ended in kicks.
. Granger managed to move to
the Bulldog 15 in the third per
lod before being stopped.
As the game entered its final
stages the Bulldogs moved
from their own 82 following a
punt and picked up three first
downs. As the final two seconds
ticked off the clock that goblin
in the end zone reared up and
scared a Bartlett receiver into
dropping a pass and that was
the ball game.
