Correction: AD
Contract Article in
April 17 Leader
In the April 17 news article
titled, Derek Smith Offered AD
Position, Leader reporter Caro-
lyn Hill incorrectly wrote that
Smith was not the choice of
Trustee Heath Sisk, who was a
member of the AD search com-
mittee.
According to the audio tape
of the Tuesday, April 10, board
meeting, when asked by a fel-
low board member what he, as
a member of the search commit-
tee, could report to the board,
Sisk replied, “Do we need to go
into closed session on this ... to
report to the board?” The board
adjourned into closed session.
No other comments were made
by Sisk in open session.
Carolyn Hill and the Rains
County Leader regret any misun-
derstandings that misstatement
may have caused.

Environmental Enforcement
Did you know there are a
series of linked amateur radio
repeaters from Mt. Pleasant to
Abilene. This group of repeat-
ers is known as “Rails Link?” If
someone speaks (broadcasts) on
one repeater, all the repeaters in
the group repeat this transmis-
sion.
Since this is an amateur radio
(ham) function, one must be a
licensed amateur to broadcast on
the system. (Anyone can listen.)
The system is normally an open
system, meaning any licensed
ham can use the system.
The real purpose of the system
is to serve the National Weather
Service during times of severe
weather. During severe weather
the National Weather Service
Fort Worth assumes control of
the system, receiving and dis-
pensing severe weather infor-
mation. The information to the
National Weather Service Fort
Tawakoni State
Park to celebrate
anniversary May 5
Lake Tawakoni State Park will
celebrate its 10th anniversary on
Saturday, May 5, beginning at
1:00 p.m. The park is located at
10822 FM 2475 in Wills Point.
For more information, call the
park at 903-560-7123.
Activities will include a Wild
West re-enactment group, Dutch
oven demonstrations, pioneer toy
making, geo-caching, bounce
house, crocheting, rope making,
fishing, live music performances
and movie in the park.
Worth during severe weather is
supplied by amateur radio storm
spotters. This information is in
nearly “real time” as it is gath-
ered and dispatched from the
field; a very important service
provided by volunteers.
At this point one may be
thinking “get to the point!” The
point is there is a Rails Link
repeater here in Emory. If you
want to hear what is happen-
ing during severe weather just
set your shortwave receiver or
your scanner to 443.625 mhz
and enjoy the traffic (chatter).
During normal conditions you
may hear hams gabbing; or most
of the time nothing. But when
the weather cranks up it can be
pretty busy.
Now for my sneaky motive.
If you listen to this frequency
and find yourself enjoying it
and maybe wanting to partici-
pate, you can contact me or visit
w5ent.org (local amateur radio
club) Website. Either way some-
one will attempt to assist you in
becoming a licensed ham.
I am available for further
information on this matter or
environmental issues at 903-473-
5091 or at my office at 109 Wood
Street.
