Meetings of the Joshua
City Council take place on
the third Thursday of each
month in the council
chambers at City Hall. The
work session begins at
6:30 p.m. and the regular
meeting follow s at 7p.m.
The Joshua Fire Depart-
ment is making plans to cel-
ebrate its 60th anniversary.
As part of the celebra-
tion, ground will be broken
on the new fire station to be
constructed on North Main
Street.
The 6oth anniversary will
be marked Oct. 22, when the
community established the
volunteer fire department.
Design of the new 12,600
square-foot facility has been
completed and soon the bid
phase will be under way. The
new station will have four
65-foot drive-through bays
with 16-foot doors.
The operations side of the
facility will house a kitchen
and dining area, day room,
bunk room capable of hous-
ing eight overnight firefight-
ers, restrooms and showers.
In the administration
side, offices for the chief and
other command staff are
complemented by a recep-
tion area, lobby, public re-
strooms, training room and
fitness/workout room. The
training room will double as
a community room available
to the public for birthday par-
ties, meetings or other gath-
erings.
Also included in the ad-
ministration section of the
building will be the city’s
emergency operations cen-
ter.
More information will be
provided as plans are com-
pleted.
Fall Festival to take
place Oct. 15
The annual Fall Festi-
val and Health Fair will take
place beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Oct. 15 at Owl Stadium.
The event is hosted by
the Joshua Area Chamber
of Commerce and the city of
J oshua.
The Fall Festival kicks off
with an 8:30 a.m. 5-kilome-
ter run benefiting the Joshua
Junior ROTC.
This year, the Hugu-
ley Hospital mobile health
screening bus will be on
scene, along with many other
health services.
There will be lots of local
businesses present, as well
as a dog show and costume
contest, children’s costume
contest, a car show and live
music.
For more information on
the festival, see today’s spe-
cial chamber of commerce
publication.
Fall cleanup event
set for Oct. 21-23
Residents are being asked
to circle Oct. 21-23 on calen-
dars, the time when the city-
wide fall cleanup will take
place.
Only one load of debris per
household or business will be
allowed.
The number of loads of
trash and debris has become
a problem in the past with
many people making repeat-
ed trips to dump trash and
debris that total more than
20 trips. The cost of that vol-
ume quickly overwhelms the
ability for city crews to man-
age and haul off the debris.
Residents will be required
to present their most recent
city trash bill, along with a
photo identification, in order
to dump. Business owners
will be required to provide
the most current water bill
and a photo identification.
Drop off times are from 7
a.m.-7 p.m. Vehicles are to
enter from 6th Street and
leave from 10th Street. There
will be a $5/each charge for
batteries or tires. No chemi-
cals, paint, auto parts or any
appliance with a compressor
will be accepted.
Please remember that
persons who live outside the
city limits of Joshua will not
be allowed to dump and will
be turned away. This pro-
gram is only available to resi-
dential and commercial resi-
dents within the corporate
limits of the city of J oshua.
Adopt a pet
Numerous pets are avail-
able for adoption at the Josh-
ua Animal Shelter.
There are 11 puppies,
seven adult dogs, three adult
cats and no kittens. Contact
the animal shelter at 817-774-
9450, visit the city’s website
or check us out Joshua Ani-
mal Control on Facebook.
