NASHVILLE, Tenn, (AP) —
Tony Smith has had his share of

cousin. So he's going to try
singing, like his cousin.

This is not idle talk among

worldwide crusade for Mrs.

minister who has spoken out for
years against homosexuals and
left-leaning politicians.
Conservatively, says his
attractive, soft-spoken wife,
“there are 70 million
Americans out there who
believe as we do.”
The airwaves around
Springfield, 111., were inundated
recently with her 30-second
television commercials and
radio spots against the Equal

the Illinois Legislature. A

about the draft. A housewife
worried that her place in the
home was threatened.
The non-profit Concerned
Women for America paid
330,000 for the TV commercials,
said Mrs. LaHaye. Their role in
the narrow defeat of ERA in
Illinois is generally regarded as
minor, but she also met with
Illinois legislators and
criticiied President Carter's
“interference" at a news
conference.
“If it becomes necessary, we
will go to other states," she
vows, listing as targets of her
women followers "the
destructive" White House
conferences on the family,
those who live together without
marriage, abortion on demand,
big government and
homosexuality.
it is "the right of Americans
to live together without
marriage but don't call them
families," she said. "God or-
dained the institution of the
family and then we tear it
down."
The LaHayes, who married 34
years ago, have four children
and five grandchildren and
have written several books
including “The Act of
Marriage" and “Spirit-
Controlled Family Living."
LaHaye, pastor of Scott
Memorial Church, oversees
their Family Life Seminars
financed by mailings and
speaking tours. LaHaye also
promotes Christian candidates
for public office and works
against non-Christians.
Homosexual rights attorney
Robert Lynn described them as

national movement” and says
LaHaye’s wife is being groomed
to take over Miss Bryant’s anti-
homosexual work.

Presley, has released l)is first
record: “Road to Success.”
Just as Presley gave up driving
a truck for Crown Electric Co.
about 25 years ago in Memphis,
Tenn., Smith, also of Memphis,
has forsaken driving a truck for
a landscaping company to
concentrate on his singing.
Smith, 26, has assumed a
stage name of Tony Presley,
his first and middle name, to
help his career.
“I want to be a singer and be
able to perform and excite the
people,” he says.
The record is out on the third
anniversary of the rock "n" roll
king’s death. Elvis Presley died
of heart failure at his
Graceland Mansion Aug. 16,
1977.
Also out is a 25th an-
niversary, limited edition,
eight-record Elvis Presley
album, “Elvis Aron Presley.”
‘‘I’ve been to the grave a
couple of times but I don’t like
to go,” Smith says. ‘‘When I
drive by Graceland, 1 get
vibes,” he says, without
elaboration.
The young singer’s father
was a brother of Presley's
mother. There’s a slight
resemblance vocally, but the
new Presley says he’s not
trying to copy his famous
cousin.
"Some people tell me I sound
a lot like him, especially in
parts of the record, but I don’t
want to make people think I’m
trying to capitalize on him. I
don’t expect to be as big as he
was. I just want to make a
living.”
He couldn’t pass up the
chance, however, to use the
Presley name.
“Obviously,” he says.

Dear Ann Landtrs: I object to
your statement that “rough-
housing” between sweethearts
is unbecoming. Are we not all
children at heart? And children
need to play, do they not?
> ..... ,L „_____________.... ^
Although neither my wife nor
I have ever read any of the
“how to" books, I believe we
have a great sex life because we
have not forgotten how to play.
When my amorous impulses
fade on occasion, my wife flirts
outrageously with me, Mata
Hari fashion. At times she will
even “tickle” or seemingly
“attack” me, and then the
chase is on! An enticing tussle
can lead us to the bath, the
kitchen, in front of the fireplace,
or even into the pool — but it
always eases into very beautiful
and gentle lovemaking.
My wife, now over 40, is a
great pleasure to me, and I
continue to see her as a sen-
suous “playmate.” — 45 And
Holding
Dear Holding: An exciting,
fulfilling love relationship
should surely include
playfulness, laughter, fun, and
even outrageous flirting. But
what I take exception to is

opinion, people who inflict pain
on one another and call it
“love” are sick.
Tickling is another highly
questionable “game.” The
ancient Chinese used tickling as
a form of torture. A person can
be “tickled to death.” (This is
where the phrase originated.)
So, to those who wrote to tell
me I am nuts I’d like to say this:
whatever you and your spouse,
lover, cellmate or "significant
other” want to do to or with
each other, it’s OK with me. It’s
not my business, and you don’t
need my permission. But be
aware: there’s a point at which
playfulness ends and sadism
takes over.

The women who “need

Had It In Binghamton
Dear Bing: With so many
women in the work force these
days, we need volunteers more
than ever. Of course, there are
some kvetchy ladies around,
but there are some gems, too.
For every pair of willing hands
and good arches there’s a job
that needs doing.
Without volunteers our
political system would crumble.
They are the unsung and unpaid
heroes and heroines — the glue
that holds things together. Read
Jane Dick’s immensely en-
tertaining and informative
book, “Volunteers and the
Making of a President.” (Dodd
Mead-Paperback, $6.95.)
Dear Ann Landers: I would
appreciate your opinion on this
question:
When your friends, relatives
or business acquaintances
celebrate their 25th or 50th
anniversary and they put in the
paper “No gifts,” does this
mean they would prefer cash?
Is it appropriate not to give
either and just send them a
card? — Mrs. GGJ
Dear Mrs. GGJ: “No gifts”
means no gifts — and cash is a
gift. A handwritten note is a bit
more elegant and infinitely
more personal than a store-
bought card.
Got those wedding bell blues

wear...and other details? Ann
Landers’ completely new “The
Bride’s Guide” will help. For a
copy, send a dollar, plus a long,
self-addressed, stamped en-

DEAR POLLY — My wife and I use identical razors. Since I

blades this makes for quite a savings. — CHARLES
