his four of hearts.
South won with dummy's
jack and counted tricks He
could come to six in high
cards and could make his sev-

to his queen of clubs or king of
spades.
There' was no hurry about
choosing which suit to attack
He could take four diamond
tricks first so he did just that
Maybe his opponents would

chucked the deuce of spades;
West the seven of spades and
five of clubs
South studied a while and'
finally came to the right deci-
sion. He didn't lead either1 suit,
Instead he returned a heart,
West cashed four heart
tricks while South chucked a
club and a spade
Now West had to lead a

seventh trick Simple, but like

Poster child
released from
hospital room
SAN ANTONIO, Texas
(API - Eight-year-old
Jeanette Alvarado, the
national Easter Seal poster,
child who was wounded in a
New Year’s Eve shooting,
has been released from the
hospital and plans to return
to school Monday, says her
mother.
The child, a paraplegic
since birth because of a
spinal cord disorder, was
wounded on the side of the
face as she watched her
grandmother’s neighbors
celebrate the arrival of the
New Year.
The bullet hit about an
inch from her right eye, but
caused, only a flesh wound.
Jeanette's aunt was also
slightly wounded.
Officials say the shooting
is still unsolved? but police
investigators speculate the
victims were struck by stray
bullets fired by a New Year’s
Eve reveler.
After Jeanette’s release
from Bexar County Hospital,
Helen Alvarado said her
daughter would be back in
her secondrgrade class
Monday.
"We haven’t talked to
Jeanette ’ yet about what
happened,” she said.
