Friday noon
"Taste-Tea"
The Hopkins-Franklin
Medical Auxiliary has
scheduled a "Taste-Tea” for
noon Friday in the Woman’s
Building. The meal promises to
be unusual and palate pleasing.
Twenty-seven members of
the organization are preparing
three to five different dishes
each from their “Treasured
Recipe” cookbook. The diners
will be able to select something
from each dish they personally
find appealing. The meal will
consist of appetizers, salads,
main dishes, vegetables,
breads, desserts and
beverages.
Spokesman for the group,
Mrs. Max Latham said, “We
felt that the bazaars were
overworked and we wanted to
do something else.” Members
of the group have included
some of the recipes from the
cookbook in.their previous
bazaars.
The group has estimated that
300 people will drop by the
Woman’s Building between the
hours of 11:30 a.m. and 1:30
p.m. “We have prepared
enough food for that many
people and probably a little
more,” said Mrs. Latham.
An added benefit of the meal,
Mrs^ Latham suggested is
eating lunch with people, “one
ordinarily doesn’t see. The

tables will be set up like a
family reunion. It’s a way to get
a new outlook on con-
versation.”
The “Treasured Recipes”
listed in the cookbook were
derived from members of the
organization and from others in
the county. “Some of the
recipes are borrowed from
local people. And you know how
many good cooks there are in
Hopkins County,” Mrs. Latham
said. The cookbook will be
available for $6 during the
“Taste-Tea.”
The cost of the “sample-it-
all” luncheon is $2. The money
will be used for the scholarship
given to a high school senior
each year who is planning to go
into a medical field. A past
recipient of the scholarship is
Keith Husbands, who is
majoring in pre-med at South-
western in Georgetown. This
years recipient was Sonja
Rowland. Miss Rowland will
major in nursing. ®
“We choose the Woman’s
Building because it is close to
downtown. We hope everyone
will come by and pick out their
lunch of samples.
“It is going to be a really
good meal and we believe
everyone will also have a good
time,” Mrs. Latham said.

Scripture Reading for Today: Ephesians 4:17-27
NO TIME FOR THE DEVIL
Neither give place to the devil.
Ephesians 4 27
A PROFESSOR in a Bible college gave these instructions
as his students were about to take their last examina-
tion in his doctrine class: "Write for 30 minutes on
the Holy Spirit; then spend the last half of the hour telling
what you know about the devil." One of the young men
became so engrossed in the first part of the test that he
forgot all about the time. When the hour w'as up, he was
still Writing on the person and work of the Holy Spirit.
Before turning in his exam paper, he hastily scribbled these
words at the bottom of the page: "I have no time tor the
devil."
I don’t know how that student fared on the exam; he
may very well have flunked it. But I do know ihis: when a
child of God is filled with the Spirit and occupied with the
things of the Lord, he can honestly say, "I have no time
for the devil.” And he will certainly receive the Master's
approval.
Though there are times when we must put the devil to
flight by resisting him flas. 4:7), in today's Scripture Paul
advises us not even to "give place to the devil." Because
he is the enemy of our souls, we should refuse to listen
to his enticements. In fact, we should leave no occasion
for him to bring us down into spiritual defeat. Wise is the
Christian who is so busily engaged in doing God's will that
he gives no place to the evil one.
Let us all be careful to live in the fullness of the Holy
Spirit and use the hours of every day for serving the Lord.
Then we too will be able to say, "I have no time for the
devil." —R.W.D
And though this world, with devils filled,
Should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for Cod hath willed
His truth to triumph through us. —Luther

ing backslider.

STATE REPRESENTATIVE
SMITH GILLEY
' During mf three terms in the Texas Legislature, I have worked to be
an independent and effective voice for all the citizens of the 10th
District.
My opponent, however, seems to be committing himself to the
Austin political rjrachine. He has received over 60% of his contributions
from the Austin Lobby (Secretary of State’s Office, financial reports). We
cannot let those special interest groups buy our seat in the Texas House
of representatives.
My only interest has been you; and because I have refused to let
powerful lobbies control my vote, they are pouring thousands of dollars
into my opponent’s campaign to defeat me. We cannot allow the Austin
Lobby to buy our vote in the Texas Legislature.
LETS KEEP AN INDEPENDENT VOICE
IN THE TEXAS LEGISIATURE!
LET'S KEEP SMITH GILLEY WORKING
FOR US IN AUSTIN. _
