p.m. Tuesday to the G.W
Rodgers property along SH-19
South where a grass fire was
reported Firemen from
Sulphur Springs, Emory and
Miller Grove extinguished the
blaze which burned ap-
proximately an acre
Shortly after that call,
firemen were notified of a grass
fire along SH-154 South where
Yantis firemen were fighting
the blaze. The Sulphur Springs
truck broke down before it
could get to the fire and Yantis
firemen extinguished the
flames.

Tuesday night by the Suiphur
Springs City Commission to
serve on the Planning and
Zoning Commission He fills the
post formerly held by F W.
Fralley who retired last year
Commission Chairman Lewis
Helm announced after an
executive session that the
selection of a city manager was
getting closer. He said the field
of candidates has been
narrowed to two
Helm said that over 40 ap-
plications were received for the
position that is currently held
by Travis Owens, interim city
manager, who will return to his
previous position as city
financial director once a new
city manager has been found
Action items at the meeting
included approval on first
reading of a special use
rezoning on a request by Albert
J Burris to utilize 713 Houston
St. as a ceramics shop and
tabling of a request to vacate a
portion of Longiho Street.
Ed Rosamond of Cannon
Craft Co was present to discuss
the request to vacate part of
Longino but questions con-
cerning the ownership of the
property came up.
Commissioner Millard Glover
said that he wanted assurance
that construction would take
place if the easement was
vacated as the pj|y had given up
an easement earlier when the
company had planned to sell out
to another firm.
Rosamond told the com-
missioners that the company
plans an expansion project that
would be completed within two
years but needed the easement up for consideration again,
before engaging in final plans. Commissioners also ap-
