For Wedding Vows

The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Edd White Sr.
of Brashear. The bridegroom is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen
Clyde Dickey of Star Route.
The bride was given in
marriage by her father. She
wore a floor length, clandlelight
dress, accented by a lace
trimmed, crystal pleated
jacket. She carried a bouquet of
silk spring flowers.
Maid of honor and sister of
the bridegroom, Kimberly June
Dickey of Star Route wore a
floor length peach colored dress
that was designed with an off-
the-shoulder motif. She carried
a silk floral arrangement.
bickey was attended by brat
man, Joe Edd White Jr.,
brother of the bride. The usher
was Jimmy Dean White, both of
Brashear.
The music of “I Love You
Truly” and “One Day at a
Time,” was provided by Mrs.
Phil McDonald and Mary
Miller.
The bride’s colors of
burgundy and peach were
carried out at the reception in
the church that followed the
ceremony. The lace covered
table was set with silver servng
sets and featured a three-tiered
wedding cake over a flowing
water fall spouting peach
colored water. Hostesses for the
brides’s table were Mrs. Kathy
Brown and Mrs. Mary Miller.
Presiding at the registry were
Jimmy White and Carla White.
The bridegroom’s table was
also decorated in burgundy and
peach and centered with a silk
floral arrangement. This table
was hosted by Brenda Dickey.
The bride is employed by
Escal Fabrication and Con-
struction Co. Inc. The
bridegroom is employed by
Caraway Tractor and is a
graduate of Sillphur Springs
High School.
Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Clyde
Dickey will make their home in
die Bonanza Community.

Mr. and Mrs. Charlie R. Miller of Winnsboro announce the ap-
proaching marriage of their daughter Linda May to J.P. Taylor
Jr., the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Taylor of Sulphur Springs. The
couple will be married at 7 p.m. in the Shady Grove Church on
July 17. Friends and relatives of the couple are invited to attend
the ceremony.
Fashion Revue 4-H style
October wedding announced
Mr. and Mrs. Aron F. Massingill announce the engagment of their
daughter, Sharon Jeanette to Gary Lee Gillen. He is the son of
Mrs. Elizabeth Gillen of Denver, Colo, and the late Floyd N.
Gillen. A 1970 Sulphur Springs graduate and a graduate of SMU,
Miss Massingill is a reporter for the Boulder Daily Camera.
Gillen is a graduate of Adams State College in Alamosa, Colo, and
is employed as a mineralogical research technician for
Texasgulf, Inc., in Golden, Colo. An Oct. 4 wedding is planned at
the Spence Chapel of the First Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs.

Engagement announced
Mr. and Mrs. Hansel L. Cundiff announce the wedding plans of
their daughter Berneda Kay Garrett to Dwight Curtis Horner.
The prospective bridegroom is the son of the late Albert Horner
III and Mrs. Margean Horner. He is the grandson of the late Virgil
Harris and Mrs. Harris of Hopkins County. An 1 p.m. candlelight
ceremony will be held at the Lee-Hi Missionary Baptist Church,
Aug. is, Friends and relatives are invited to attend the ceremony
and reception.
The Northeast District 4-H
Fashion Revue is set for
Thursday, July 24 at the Willow
Brook County Club in Tyler.
Three 4-H members from
Hopkins County will compete in
the event.
Each of the contestants won
their division in the local county
Fashion Revue. Three
categories are included in the
district event. Entries in th
Senior Divison will compete for
the honor of representing the
district at the State 4-H Fashion
Revue, Sept. 17-19 in Abilene.
One Junior Division, ages 9 and
10 is designated for beginners.
The second Junior Division is
for 4-Her’s ages 10-14 who have
previously participated in at
least one Fashion Show.
Entering the event from
Hopkins county will be Jenny
Weatherly, Donna Hines and
Debra Neal.
Miss Weatherly is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe
Weatherly and a member of the
Miller Grove 4-H Club. She
constructed a vest and skirt.
The vest features a cardigan
neckline with cut-away ar-
mholes. The skirt is slightly
flared with an elastic waistline.
Miss Hines made the most of
the bright colors that are “in”
this season with her three-piece
linen outfit. The loose fitting
wheat-colored jacket features a
notched collar, lapels, and full-
length sleeve. The straight skirt
has a fashionable front slit. The
camisole of bright yellow has
spaghetti straps. She is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don
Hines.
Miss Neal, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Junior Neal, con-
structed a lined button jacket
with notched collar. The
reversible vest has a buckle
belt. The buttoned skirt is
gathered into the waistband and
has side seam pockets. The
satin blouse buttons down die
front and has a standing collar.
She algo placed in the state
event last year.
In the junior division, the
contestants will be judged and
awarded blue, red or white
ribbons. The number of senior
entries qualifying for the State
4-H Fashion Revue is deter-
mined by the total entries in the
district event.
The high-point senior entry
will be awarded the Evelyn
Simpson trophy. The trophy is
made available by the family of
the former Upshur County
Extension Agent.
Nineteen counties are in-
cluded in the Northeast Ex-
tension District. A maximum of
three entries per county are
allowed. The District Fashion
Revue begins at 10a.m. with the
public revue and awards
program at 12:45 p.m.

The First Baptist Church of
McKinney, was the scene for
the 7 p.m., June 14 candlelight
wedding of Catherine Marie Lee
and Tony D. Willis.
Parentsof the couple are Mr.
and Mrs. Edward Lee of
McKinney and Mr. and Mrs.
John Willis of Clifton, formerly
of Sulphur Springs.
Reverend Tim Willis, brother
of the groom officiated the
dduble-ring ceremony. Mrs.
Reth Ann Watson at the organ
and on the flute and Mrs. Donna
Calaway at the piano were
accompanied by singers Jerry
Calaway and Lynda Willis.
The altar, centered by an
arch, was flanked by seven-
branch candelabra and candle
trees. Arrangements of white
chrysanthemums, spring
flowers and jade palms com-
pleted the decor. A unity candle
was lit by each of the parents as
they entered the church. At the
end of the ceremony the bride
and groom lit a unity candle
using the candles left by their
parents.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father wore a white
imported silk sheer Farrah
combined with Chantilly lace
and seed pearls. The fitted
bodice featured a scalloped
neckline of lace and pearls.
Large .Bishop sleeves were
trimmed at the cuff with lace,
The A-line skirt was accented
with a deep border of lace and
flowed to the back forming a
chapel length train. The >
fingertip veil of lace and pearls
was caught with a double veil of
silk illusion, edged in lace.
Following family tradition, she
wore a gold bracelet of her
paternal grandmother. She
carried a cascade of white
roses, spring flowers, centered
with an orchid.
The bride was attended by
her sister, Debbie Lee as maid
of honor and Mrs. Milicent
Sibley as matron of honor.
Bridesmaids were Babbie Conn
and Tina Willis, sister of the
groom, and Mrs. Connie Lacy,
sister of the bride. Her at-
tendants wore long gowns of ice
blue in a Grecian silhoutte and
matching picture hats and
carried Victorian bouquets of
spring flowers.
The groom was attended by
his brother-in-law Ricky
Rodican of Del Rio as best man.
Groomsmen were Doyle
Hamrick, Dallas; John Murray,
DcRidder, La.; Steve Moss and
Mark Gossett, Sulphur Springs.
Ushers and camllellghters were
Robert Magee, LaMarque;
Jimmy Sibley, Houston and
Clovis Harbar, Sulphur Springs.
A reception followed in the
church foyer. Members of the
houseparty included Mrs.
Tamora Rodican, Ms. Clara
Lowrey, Jennifer King, Cynthia -
Alford, Mrs. Lindsay Matthew,
and Mrs. Cindy Ellis.
The bride is a 1975 graduate of
McKinney High School. Willis is
at 1974 graduate of Sulphur
Springs High School. Both are
1979 graduates of Stephen F.
Austin University in
Nacagdoches. Mrs. Willis is
employed by Ernst and
Whinney accounting firm in w
Houston. sWillis is with the
LaMarque Independent School
District as a football and track
coach.
Foj|owing a wedding trip to
Arkansas, Missoui and Ten-
nessee the couple will make
their home in League City,
Texas.
Hopkins County
Ext. Homemakers Council
The Hopkins County Ex-
tension Homemakers Council
met in the home of their ad-
visor, Janie Crump, County
Extension Agent-Home
Economics. A business meeting
was held prior to the salad
luncheon.
Theresa Sessions, council
chairman, presided. Council
members present were Faye
Gilley, Geneva Bayless, Undine
Pogue, Dorthy Perry, Bettie
Bilbreath and Minnie Bell
Hargrave. Other club members
and guests present were Ginger
Gilley Heard, Vida Alsobrooks,
Freddie Alsobrooks, LaDelle
Brown, Marilyn Weatheread,
Melinda Moore, Lynda
Sprague, Lou Ivy Johnson and
Carrie Brazeal.
The council set Aug. 18 for the
deadline for Extension
Homemaker Club members to
contact the County Extension
Office if they plan to attend the
Dallas tour, Aug. 22.
The nominating committee,
composed of Vida Alsobrooks,
Dorothy Perry and Minnie Bell
Hargrave will determine a slate
for 1981 council officers prior to
the September meeting.
July 15 was the date an-
nounced for the “Tots on
Parade” committee meeting. It
will be at 1 p.m. in the extension
service conference room. All
clubs are asked to send a
representative. The council
voted to buy special ribbons for
the event.
Sept. 1 was the deadline set
for homemakers planning to
attend the two-day recreational
camp at Lake Trinidad, Sept. 15
and 16. Contact the County
Extension Service to pre-
register.
The council will host a club
reception for all organizations
in the county on Sept. 23, at 4
p.m.
Mrs. Crump presented the
facts about the “Vial of Life”
program that has been initiated
by the Committee on Aging.
“Vial of Life” refers to a small
plastic vial containing medical
records and personal in-

formation about persons living
in a household. The vial is taped
inside the refrigerator and
emergency personnel will be
advised to look there first for
that essential information. A
“Vial of Life" decal will be
available for the outside of the
refrigerator. Volunteer ex-
tension homemakers will also
be assisting with the program.
As a conclusion, the council
voted to have a bazaar in
November.
Progressive EH
The Progressive Extension
Homemakers Club completed
their organization at their
fourth meeting, Tuesday at the
First National Bank. The new
club will meet the second
Tuesday morning of each
month at 10 a.m. in the com-
munity room of the First
National Bank.
Janie Crump, county ex-
tension agent-home economics
and Bettie Gilbreath, chairman
of the membership committee,
met with the group to complete
the details for organizing the
new club.
Officers elected were Melinda
Moore, president; La Delle
Brown, vice president; Marilyn
Weatheread, secretary
treasurer; Lucy McCorkle,
reporter and Nona Schulz,
council delegate.
The group had a sharing time
for new recipes, quilt pillow
ideas and other tips to improve
home and family life. Anyone
wishing to join may plan to
attend the next meeting, Aug.
12. Mrs. Gilbreath will present
the program on “Fiber in the
Diet.”

The Committee on Aging of
the Hopkins County Extension
Service met recently to
evaluate their recent “Fun and
Frolic" recognition event and to
make plans for future ac-
tivities.

The Arts and Craft Exhibit at
the Fall Festival will again be
sponsored by the committee.
The exhibit will be for senior
citizen participants, Sept. 19
and 20, in half of the Exhibit
Hall.
The weekend of the 13th will
be for , any age art and craft
exhibitor, as well as the outside
exhibit area.
Applications will be mailed
from the County Extension
Service office in mid-July.
The “Vial of Life” program
will be another activity of the
Committee, as well as other
groups. The committee plans to
initiate the program during the
Fall Festival. “Vial of Life”

program was originated for
senior citizens, homemakers
are encouraged to put medical
information in the vial for all
members in the household

parents and baby-sitters as well
as emergency personnel. There
will be no cost.
Bill Chapman brought up the
need for a “Widow’s Group” in
Hopkins County. The members
will work with AARP and the
Family Living committee to
investigate this future
program.
A special swim night for
senior citizens at the City Pool
and a picnic will be held Aug.
15. There will be no charge.
The next meeting will be a
covered dish luncheon. Anyone
wishing to serve on this com-
mittee may contact the County
Extension Service, 127 Jef-
ferson.
Ruth Long Returns
from NEA Meet
Mrs. W. S. (Ruth) Long,
delegate from the Hopkins
County unit, has returned from
the National Education
Association 118the annual
convention - 59th representative
assembly. Long was the
delegate from the local Hopkins
County unit.
The theme of the convention
was “Politics in the 80’s:
Teachers make a difference.”
The meeting was held in the Los
Angeles Convention Center
June 30 through July 6. There
were 579 voting delegates from
Texas.
One of the main political
actions taken by the assembly
was the overwhelming vote to
endorse President Jimmy
Carter for re-election. The vote
took place the day before Carter
spoke to the delegates and
accepted the “Friend of
Education” award.
The next annual meeting will
be in Minneapolis, Minn.
