Follow That Patrol Car!
DODGE CITY, Kan. (AP)
— It all started as a.routine
traffic violation, but before it
was over there was a
citywide dragnet for Officer
Gary Ne-umeyer’s patrol
car.
Police dispatcher Terry
Lee gave this account of the
incident:
Neumeyer was pursuing a
speeding car Saturday when
the driver stopped and
bolted. While the officer
gave chase, a passenger in
the car got into the police
cruiser and sped away.
An hour later, a state
trooper spotted the cruiser.
He put on his lights and siren
and the pirated patrol car
did likewise, refusing to pull
over until more officials
arrived.
“It’s just one of those
things that happens,’’ Lee
said of Neumeyer’s troubles.
“He’s taking a little kidding,
but it’s all in good fun.’’
The drivers of both cars
were being held in the Ford
County Jail on Sunday.

Mm,
DEAR 1)R BLAKER
This may sound silly, hut 1
need your advice about my
girlfriend We are both 17
years old and have been going ,
together for three months ,
" Abdul a week ago. my feel-
ings started changing Sudden- '
ly ifiidn't want to spend much
time with her
Then on Tuesday I
remember the night because
it was the first time she met
my parents I decided
' rather.suddenly to break up. 1
told her at midnight and we
talked until 2 a m
, She was upset and didn't
want to break up. I think she
■ was mad too,-because she
told me she wasn't going to
talk to me the next day at
School
Well, she didn't What's
worse, she -started talking to
another guy who she used to
date 1 thought thurwas pretty,
mean of. her.
1 can l talk to my parents
about this because they are
upset about my dad s recent
hospitalization 1 am really
unhappy
DEAR READER First
things first. When a relation-
ship ends, you do not stop hav-
ing feelings about the other
person even though you may
have initiated the breaking
up
It 'sounds like you dont
want to go out with your for-
mer girlfriend on a -regular
basis But you don't want any-
one else dating her, either.
You still feel possessive
although you ended the rela-
tionship
This is particularly under-
standable in view of your
uncertainty as to why iyou
ended the relationship It will
help you to let her, go if you
understand your own motiva-
tions better Give it some
-divorce f'eople don't think
clearly when they tire upset
And don't be too hard on
your ex-girlfriend

thought now ' ^:":-
Maybe you got to know her
better during the past three
months and didn't especially
like what you saw Or perhaps
the newness wore off and
there wasn’t much left in the
’relationship
Another possibility is that
you like the rest of your.
family - were badly fright-
ened by vour father's hospital
ization feeing upset about turn
could have caused you to
draw away from, your 'girl-
friend
Your teen years are a tune
to learn about relationships,
so don't feel too bad Just
remember not to make any
big decisions in the future
unless you understand your
motivations at least partially
and unless the rest of your life
is relatively crisis-free
1 often advise adults, for
example, not to make any big
changes in their lives quit
ting a job, for example just
after the upheaval of ’a
'breakup especially after
the introduction that very
night to vour parents, which is
usually a sign of increasing
involvement' she must have
felt very rejected
Perhaps, her only way of
getting back at you and feel
ing a little better about her
self was to start seeing other.
boys as soon as possible
Do not let your pride get
mixed into this Remember
you broke up with her

Arthritis and blood cells
DEAR DR. LAMB Since
the blood is regularly reju-
venated in the bone marrow, I
would like to know which
bones are the most significant
In that activity and how
breastbone is a good source
for blood cell formation
Other bones, including the
}ong bones in the legs, where
there is bone marrow are
capable of producing blood
HEALTH
Lawrence E. Lamb.M.D.
arthritis might affect them.
I understand that dead cells
are wasted through the pores
and in the “sleep" of the eyes.
Does this mean that excess
perspiration indicates a
healthy bone marrow9 I’m a
carpenter, active at 63, 192
pounds, 5 feet 11 and I sweat
and ache a lot.
DEAR READER - Yes,
for adults most of the new
blood cells come from the
bone marrow In fact, your
body produces three million
new red blood cells every
second The sternum or
cells.
Arthritis itself will not
affect blood cell formation.
Arthritis involves joints or the
surfaces of the bones where
they meet. These end areas
are not the areas that are rich
in bone marrow and produce
red blood cells.
In some people the medi-
cines they take for arthritis
can depress bone marrow
function This is true of some
medicines used for other con-
ditions as well That’s why
many doctors like to have
blood tests and other exami-
nations to see how their
patients are getting along
with the medicines that
they’re using
To give you a better under-
standing of how your body
produces and destroys red
blotwi cells every day, 1 am

Dead cells from the surface
of the body just simply flake
off They’re so small usually
that you don’t see them. The
classic example is dandruff,
which is simply the flaking off
of skin cells from the scalp.
We all have this except in
many people the little dead
cells are so small that'they're
not visible to the naked eye In
certain individuals these cells
clump together, then they’re
seen and we call it dandruff.
