Mike, 15, from Huntsville,
Ala , is planning to ask a
girl out and it's his first
date He doesn't drive so he
is asking our teen guest
writers to make sugges-
tions. Barbara Watts, IB,
from Hayward, Calif , and
* Brian Ralston, 17, who lives
in Dubuque, Iowa, will do
the honors.
Or. Wallace: I’m 15 and
have never been on a date. I
am planning to ask a girl at
my school to go out but I do
not know where to take her.
I Since I don't drive, I
would have to ask my dad to
drive us there then pick us
up and that would be embar
rasslng. I'd also like to hear
what your teen guest writers
have to say. — Mike, Hunts-
ville, Ala.
Hi Mike I'm not a double-
date fan but I think you
should consider it for your
first date. My first date was
a disaster for me because I
was so nervous and I didn't
know what to say We went
to a movie and her parents
took and picked us up I had
such a traumatic time that I-
did not date for six months
If f were you i d make the
first date a movie or school-
related double date and I'd
walk if the theater or school
is close by But if you and
your date enjoy each other’s
company, anywhere you go
will be fun. — Brian,
Dubuque, Iowa

WASHINGTON TAP) - The
Texas Triangle between
Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonia
and Houston may get a boost
when a railroad revitalization
bill comes up for a House vote.
But if the reception the
overall bill received as it hit the
House floor for debate F riday is
any indication, tough obstacles
are ahead - including talk of a
presidential veto.
A vote is expected early next
week.
The Texas Triangle itself
received no mention, but it is
included with 12 other proposed
intercity rail corridors for
improved passenger service.
The price of the total package
was not overlooked by an in-
creasingly budget conscious
House, although its defenders
say the immediate financial
impact has been misun-
derstood.
Some or all of the 13 corridors
could become eligible for $105
million authorized by the bill
for design and equipment to
improve passenger rail ser-
vice.
Funds to develop the in-
tercity corridors would be
authorized from the recently
passed oil "windfall" tax
revenue.
The bill suggests that an
additional $850 million from
that revenue could be
authorized for future
development.
"We're talking about
spending more money, more
money when all you hear from
the people back home is cut
spending,” Rep. Jim Collins, R-
Texas, said.
"If America has much more
good causes out of Congress,
we're going to bankrupt this
country.'’ Collins, a Dallas
conservative! concluded.
I >ess criticized portions of the
bill would set up a $75 million
federal loan for employees of
the bankrupt Rock Island
Railroad and authorize: $750
million to complete develop-
ment of the Northeast Rail
Corridor between Washington
and Boston.
Supporters of the Texas
Triangle claim its viability is
high.
House Majority Leader Jim
Wright of Fort Worth has said
he does not quarrel with the
concept that the Northeast
Corridor’s population density
makes it suitable for rail
development.
Wright said his interpretation
of an Amtrak and Department
of Transportation study ranks
the Texas Triangle fourth most
promising among the 13
corridors.
, "If we could run 12 trains per
day in both directions on the
Texas Triangle, it is projected
that so many more people
would be riding the train that
our savings in gasoline would
soar to more than 10 million
gallons annually - just from
people not using their cars to
travel from city to city in

I think your first date
* should take you and your
date to a school activity
(game, dance, play, etc ).
. That way you are both on
familiar ground and with
people you both know and
can talk to
If there is a second date
then I'd go to a community
activity (movie, miniature
golf, bowling, etc ). By this
time you both will be more

That’s cool.
Bright sunny colors and comfortable carefree styling—
that’s what children love most about Health-tex clothes.
Parents like them because they're so sturdy and
long-wearing. It means that one child after another can
enjoy them for years to come. They wash and dry
beautifully by machine. And most need no ironing.
They're reasonably priced, too. Ask to see the wonder-
ful selection of coordinated skirts, tops, pants, shirts,
creepers, coveralls and more, for boys, and for girls
