Apartment fuss
still rumbling
, NEW YORK JAP) -
Directors of an exclusive
Manhattan apartment building
say there is no truth to Gloria
Vanderbilt’s charges that she
was denied a $1.1 million duplex
because of her relationship with
a black entertainer.
Carl M. Muller, president of
the board of directors for River
House, said in papers filed
Tuesday in Manhattan Supreme
Court that the fashion
designer’s bid for an apartment
was turned down because of
publicity. »
“I believe that the ceaseless
flow of gossip column items
about (her) comings and
goings, where she eats and with
whom, what parties she goes to,
what she wears and where she
lives, would attract unwelcome
publicity to River House," he
said.
He also questioned her
financial status, but Justice
Norman Ryp extended a
temporary order barring the
sale of the apartment to anyone
else pending the outcome of the
dispute.
Miss Vanderbilt filed suit last
week, saying she was denied the
apartment because directors
feared she would marry pianist-
singer Bobby Short. River
House’s tenants include Henry
Kissinger.
