giving Day with the traditional
turkey dinner and all the trim-

to help celebrate her 88th birth-
day. All of Mrs. Garrett's children

Although Mrs. Garrett is con-
fined to "the inside" most of
the time just now her daughter
says "she looks forward to

Thrall Tournament
Bartlett Lassies and Bull-
dogs will be participating in tho
Thrall Tournament beginning
today (Thursday) and will con-
tinue Friday and Saturday.
The Girls game with Hutto
is scheduled to begin at 6:30
p. m. today (Thursday) and
the boys game with Hutto at
7:45 p. m.

District Play
Bartlett High School Las
aics open district play for the
basketball season next Tues-
day night. Dec. 12th in Lex-
ington. This will include both
tho A and B teams.
Game time is scheduled for
6:30 p. m.
Bell Rehab Genter
Hires Teacher of
Hearing Impaired
The Bell County Rehabilita-
tion Center a United Fund ag-
ency of Bell and Coryell Coun-
ties has employed Mrs. Susan
Wheelock as a teacher of the
hearing impaired effective De-
cember 1. Mrs. Wheelock is lo-
cated at Ft. Hood and assumes
responsibilities of the first
actual step in satellite program-
ming recently endorsed by the
Board of Directors and partial-
ly supported financially by the
Eileen (Evening) Lions Club.
Mrs. Wheelock will be respon-
sible for individual evaluation
and education of preschool
hearing impaired.
The Bell County Rehabilita-
tion Center provides programs
and services for approximately
250 children and adults of Cen-
tral Texas who have physical
and communicative disabilities.
The Center employs a staff of
15 highly qualified individuals.
The Wilson Valley Cemetery
permanent maintenance fund
planning committee will meet
Tuesday Dec. 12 at 7 p. m. in
R. N. Allison's office in Little
River.
Allison nnd F. S. Walker will
make a report on their study of
the maintenance funds of seve-
ral of the other cemeteries in
the area.
The committee will formu-
late suggestions and recom-
mendations for the various
types of funds suitable for Wil-
son Valley Cemetery for pre-
sentation at tho public meeting
on Saturday January 27 1973
at 2 p. m. at the First Metho-
dist Church in Little River.

and Mrs. Gene Springer of Bel-ton.
Bulldog Yearbook
Sale Underway
Announcement has been
made from BHS this week that
the sale of tho 1973 Bulldog
yearbook is now $6.00 and that
tho sale needs to be completed
before the Christmas holidays.
Anyone who has not yet or-
dered a yearbook and would
like to do so is asked to contact
John Watkins.
Eddie Lango is a patient in a
Temple hospital.

Bob Sloan Director of Media
Services for Region XII Service
Center was in the local district
Tuesday to conduct a teachers
conference.
This conference was held re-
garding the availability of me-
dia equipment resources and
utilization of media materials
from Region XII Service Cen
ter.
This equipment includes edu
cational films over-head pro
jection material projectors
slides and etc. which are avail-
able to Bartlett High School on
reasonable rental basis and de
hvered at the school weekly
from waco.
Recent visitors of Mrs. L. C.
Clemons were Mrs. Wade Mc-
Ginnis of Taylor and Mrs. Roy
Thomas of Austin.
Mrs. Edna Hunt is a patient
in a Taylor hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Scale of
Eddy visited Mrs. Jack. Scale
during the week-end.
Railway Overpass
Dedicated In
Taylor Tuesday
The new railroad overpass on
Taylor's Main Street was offi-
cially dedicated Tuesday morn-
ing. U. S. Congressman Bob
Poago on an unannounced visit
to tho dedication of the new
railroad overpass addressed a
crowd of about 600 who gather-
ed for tho event.
Tho City of Taylor tho sur-
rounding trado area and motor-
ists traveling on Highway 95
have longed for an overpass for
many many years. In recent
years with the added traffic
and longer trains the need has
increased and the overpass has
now become a reality.

Date On Dec. 25
We know that our calendar
today is a relatively modern
institution. But do we realize
that in earliest times Christmas
was celebrated on January 18?
It is still so celebrated by tho
Armenian church. Later on tho
date became January 6 and
it was only in 1762 with the
final change to the Gregorian
calendar that the rearrange-
ment of dates placed Christmas
Day on December 25.
Some church people in Eng
land were very indignant when
this change took place feeling
that somehow they had been
robbed of 11 days and the cor-
responding wages. Some of
them tried to find out if tho
new date were correct by noting
whether or not the tree' called
the Glastonbury Thorn (sup-
posedly planted by Joseph of
Arimathea.) would flower on
tho now dato or the old. Some-
times tho tree bloomed on one
day and sometimes on the othor
