Merger Approved
By Comptroller
Washington, Jan. 14 OF —
The comptroller of the cur-
rency, James J. Saxon, ap-
proved in Washington today
merger of two of the largest
banks in Houston.
The merger will unite the
National Bank of Coromeree,
the second largest in Houston,
and the Texas National Bank,
the fourth largest.
The new bank will be called
the Texas National Bank of
Commerce of Houston and will
have deposits of 861 million
dollars — or 20 million dol-
lars less than the largest bank,
the First City National Bank
of Houston.
The US Justice Department
is understood to be opposed to
the merger on the grounds that
it violates anti-trust laws.

Morris Warns
Of Influence
Loss in Africa
Fort Worth, Jan. 14 LF —
A Republican candidate"for the
US Senate, Robert Morris of
Dallas, said in Fort Worth
Western influence is crumbling
in Africa.
The Dallas Republican added
in an address last night to the
association of petroleum lands-
men :
"This steady trend, together
with Communist gains in Cuba,
British Guiana and Brazil and
the softening up of Mexico and
the situation in the Canal
Zone should he arousing Wash-
ington to the danger ahead. In-
stead of alarming us,” Morris
continued, "Washington con-
tinues to put us to sleep.”
Morris said Communist suc-
cesses have not been generally
recognized in Africa “because
the Communist plan of con-
quest for Africa does not call
for the establishment of an out-
right Soviet state. Instead, “the
creation of left leaning nen
trals that would be financed by
us in this transitional stage
leads toward socialism.”

She is Norma Knoble, a
brunette, who says she is ter-
rible looking and that Hunt,
“is taking me on my bubbling
personality.
Miss Knoble said she is 5
feet 6 inches tall and weights
117 Ms pounds and added "that’s
today’s weight. I usually weight
more, but I’ve been running
the pounds off getting ready
for the wedding."
