ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.
(AP) — Divers resumed their
grim task in Tampa Bay at
daybreak Saturday, searching
for more bodies entangled in the
twisted steel and concrete
rubble left when the Sunshine
Skyway bridge collapsed after
being rammed by a huge
phosphate ship.
At least 32 persons were killed
in the Friday morning accident,
which happened during a
blinding, rush-hour rainstorm.
Officials feared the death toll
could go higher.
Meanwhile, the Clearwater
Sun reported that the pilot on
board the Summit Venture,
John Lyro, was guiding another
ship, the 720-foot Liberian
freighter Jonna Dan, March 8
when it hit the bridge, causing
$40,000 in damage. Hie paper
attributed the report to Coast
Guard Capt. William Whaley.
Neither Whaley nor Ljro could
be reached immediately for
comment.
Only 18 bodies had been
recovered when diving
operations, already hampered
by foul weather, were halted
late Friday because of
darkness. Saturday morning,
divers were working in calm
waters under clear skiei.
Most of the dead were aboard

A storm, whipping up
hurricane-force winds, cut
visibility to near zero when the
accident occurred, the Coast
Guard said.
The channel is 600 feet wide
and the bridge supports sit 100

“There are a number of
vehicles under water and en-
tangled in the bridge," said
Coast Guard Capt. Marshall
Gilbert. “There are bodies in at
least two of them. We think
there are additional vehicles.”
Gilbert said the Coast Guard
had unconfirmed reports that a
bus loaded with migrant
workers was missing.
• “We still have to classify this
, as a rumor,” he said. “We have
not ruled it out. The divers have
not swept the area.”
A 40-foot piece of the center
span remained dangling' from a
support over the area where the
bus, with 23 persons inside, had
fallen. It was feared the the
Libyan exile shot
by countryman
ROME (AP) — A Libyan,
described by police sources as a
foe of Libyan strongman Col.

and killed Saturday by a felloW
countryman at a Rome cafe,
police said.
The victim, identified as

months in a string of killings in
Rome, London and Beirut. Two
weeks ago, Khadafy threatened
to “physically eliminate” all
exiles who do not return home
by May 17.
Police said El Kazmi arrived
at the cafe of the Turin Hotel
near Rome’s Terjnini railroad
station at 11:30 a.'m. for a noon
appointment with two Libyans.
The two men arrived and after
chatting with El Kazmi for
about 10 minutes, one of them
pulled out a pistol and shot him
twice in the head, police said.
He was pronounced dead on the
scene by Red Cross nurses.

One to the mortgage company.
One to the utility company.
We can help reduce one of them.
Energy costs are high.
And, they’re going even
higher. Nowadays, heating
and cooling your home can
cost almost as much as the
home itself.
To help reduce energy
costs and yet keep your
home comfortable, get a
GE Weatherton Heat
Pump. In winter, the GE

percent over regular elec-
tric heating systems. In

Furthermore, it’s a most
dependable and durable
unit.

much about your mortgage
payment, but, it sure can

January, killing 23 seamen.
The lone survivor of Friday’s
accident, Wesley Maclnjtire,

Maclntire, 56, on his way to
