Cumby accreditation
status clears check
Superintendent Guss Dial of
the Cumby Independent School
District has been informed the
accredited status of the school
will be recommended by the
Texas Education Agency. The
notification followed a review
of the Five-Year Priorities
Plan.
Edward Manigold, acting
director, Division of School
Accreditation Planning and
Approvals, Texas Education
Agency, notified Dial of the
action in a letter, which
follows:
“The Five-Year-Priorities
Plan submitted by your district
has been reviewed by Carl
Defibaugh and other agency
staff members. The results of
this review indicate that your
plan meets the criteria set forth
in the Principles, Standards,
and Procedures for the Ac-
creditation of School Districts.
“Since your district has also
been found to be in substantial
compliance with other ac-
creditation principles and
standards, it will be recom-
mended that the accredited
status of Cumby Independent
School District be reaffirmed.
“Your approved plan now
becomes a performance
commitment of toe district as
toe basis for maintenance of
accredited status. At toe end of
the first year of im-
plementation and each year
thereafter, you must submit an
annual evaluation report. The
report is due in this office an or
before July 1, 1981. Please
contract your education service
center or your accreditation
consultant if you have
questions concerning toe an-
nual evaluation.”
Feds back off
bond ad claim
WASHINGTON (AP) - U.S.
Savings Bonds will no longer be
advertised as “one sure way to
make sure your dreams come
true,” the Treasury Depart-
ment says, bowing to com-
plaints of false advertising by
the senior citizens activist
group called The Gray Pan-
thers.
“We don’t feel we’ve been
misleading in the past but if
there seems to be some per-
ception of that, we want to
change it,” Carolyn M. John-
ston of the Treasury said
Wednesday. New advertising
will focus on savings bonds as a
good method of forced savings.
The Gray Panthers com-
plained to the Federal Trade
Commission that the Treasury
was misleading when, at a time
of inflation above 12 percettt, it
advertised Savings Bonds as a
good investment. Savings bonds
now pay a maximum percent
interest.
