SMITH
Karen Smith of Seagraves
is the parent of a baby, Zharion
spruce up the package.
Suddenly, you decide that this
is truly the awkward age.
Then comes the challenge
of... "Valentine's Day, but we re
married now. we don’t need
that stuff!”... Wrong thing to
say, wrong way to say it. Do
you suppose they have any
candy hearts left at the discount
store this late?
But all of this leads to a
special day, "Daddy, will you
be my valentine?..." comes the
sweet little voice that melts your
heart. In my case, it was two
little girl voices for too few years
that asked me that question and
then a little boy chimed in as
well. And with the query usually
came some kind of craft item
which little hands had worked
on for days to make it just right
for daddy and mommy. And
suddenly the mushy and hokey
day takes on an entirely new
and the sweetest meaning.
My grandkids are too
young to realize the signifi-
cance of the day. But I do look
forward to some really special
and heartfelt days to come. I had
been told by more than a few
friends that the grandkids are
special... and, gosh, were they
right.
Oops... now I have to
remember old granny on this
special day. I wonder, will a not
too scrunched up box of choco-
lates' be left in the bin? But, alas,
no sentiment will get me out of
the dog house after using the
term "old granny."
You know, I've figured it
out. Some folks are great at this
Valentine thing. But, somehow,
considering my woeful past on
this day... I wasn't awarded that
special gene of how to act on this
holiday of love.
I hope you have had and
will have better luck with this
sentimental interlude into your
life.
Happy Valentines!
And here goes my final
attempt on this Valentine's day In
2004...
Violets are blue...
And even if you are an "old
granny," I love you.
