Dear Mike,
The following is indicative of some of
the youths I have worked with:
I am a thirteen year old boy. I feel
angry, afraid and alone. I have never
been in trouble with the police. I am
living in a safe place shelter. I can stay
here for only a few weeks. I came here
because things are not good for me at
home.
My caseworker is looking for a place
for me to go because the judge has de-
cided it would not be good for me to go
back home. Most places my caseworker
has found are three or four hundred
miles from here. I will be all alone. I
won’t know anyone there. My family
and friends can’t come and visit me
bacause it is too far away.
My family and I are getting counseling
while I am in the shelter. If there was a
placement for me closer to my home,
maybe our family could get more help
and we could get back together.
My friend, Tom, doesn’t have any-
where to go either. He has lived on the
streets or with friends for over a year. He
keeps running away because things are
so bad at home. Most of the others here
have the same problems. I hope some-
one will help us find a place where
people care about kids and want to give
us a chance.
B.B.M.
It is heartbreaking to work with young
people like B.B.M. There have been
youth from our own county who have

had to experience placement in facilities
hundreds of miles from Archer County.
Some of them have been placed as far
away as Lubbock, Amarillo, Houston
and El Paso. Yes, we do have child abuse
in Archer County and we have had chil-
dren removed from their homes by
Child Protective Service. The trauma of
child abuse is bad enough without hav-
ing to go hundreds of miles from home.
Many of these kids have no one who
really cares about them.
It has been my experience that people
in Archer County do care about kids,
especially those who need help and
understanding. There are private citi-
zens who have provided clothes, dental
expenses, medicirte and money so chil-
dren of Archer County could receive
care their families were unable to pro-
vide. A local church group has provided
diapers, formula and even an allowance
for a youth for over five years. Each
Christmas through your generosity over
50 children have received Christmas
gifts. This is the reason Harmony Fam-
ily Services heard about Archer City.
They heard we were a community who
really cared about kids.
$13,000 dollars are needed immedi-
ately to make this home for boys a real-
ity. Your help is needed. Won’t you
continue to show your caring spirit by
contributing to this very worthy cause.
Please make a donation today. Help give
abused and neglected boys a chance for
a brighter tomorrow.
