Ranch Burglary
Near Peerless
Members tot the sheriff’s de-
partment are, investigating a
burglary committed over the
weekend at the Putmap Ranch
near. Peerless.
Loot of the thieves was small.
Deputy Arlis Herman said they
took only a tractor tire after
breaking into the ranch's repair
shop.
L. Cockrum, ranch foreman,
discovered the burglary when he
reported for work Monday morn-
ing.
The thievee, who were appar-
ently intoxicated, ’gained entry
by prizing off two boards at the
rear of the building, which con-
tains ranch tools and repair
equipment
Herman said they knocked two
or three saddles off their hooks
Of postal receipts, at the Sulphur
Springs office.
"But 3.5 per cent-rtw-tTnl^
gain,” -hc-pointed out.
Postal receipts at the Sulphur
Springs post office climbed to an
all-time high of $79,329.37 in
1955, according to u year-end
tabulation by Postmaster Byron
Williams.
The new record represents an
increase of $2,634.69 over 1954,
or approximately 3.6 per rent. It
is about $8,200 higher than the
1953 receipts.
Williams pointed out that the
December quarter gain was only
$174.83. or from $23,398.69 to
$23,473.52.
“We had expected to hit $80,-
000 this year,” Williams said. “If
another postage meter or two had j
been brought in late in the njonth
we would have done it,” ^
Williams said the slight gain
indicated a possible levelling oft
setting equipment, they must
have been drunk,” he declared.
They left by way of the front
door after cutting, a chain with
a torch.
