A 30-year-old local Negro
gave a statement to Sheriff
Paul Ray Jones Wednesday
morning admitting his part in
the theft of a 1958 Chevrolet
belonging to Miss Mary Ruth
Payne on April 16.
The man and his wife were
arrested here May 24 on sus-
picion of the theft. The car was
found in Denver, Colo., May
10. His wife admitted the crime
and was released on $1,000
bail. The man refused to talk,
although fingerprints and lie
detector tests pointed to his
guilt.
Sheriff Jones said the
Negro's bond has been set at
$10,000. His case will come be-
fore the grand jury in August.
He has been held in a Dallas
jail.
