was captured near a small stor-
.age building only 2 blocks from
Mrs. Watkins’ home. The police
said she had apparently stayed in
the building, . 'without food^ and
water, for 5 days and 4 nights.
She was caught after she had
gone to the home of a neighbor
and said:
“I. need a drink of water,” and
then, “I'm Mrs. Denney* I’ve done
something terrible.”
Mrs. Watkins, a divorcee and
the mother of two children, was
found" dead with five bullets in
her body. Authorities said she ap-
parently had fought for her life.
They said they started search for
Mrs. Denney after a brother of
the. slain woman said Mrs. Wat-
kins had told hTm Mrt. Denny was
to spend last Tuesday night at
her home. ~
The police said Mrs. Denney
when captured was wearing a
house coat and slippers and had
numerous'scratches it bo-a t her
arms, legs and face, which she
told she got when she fell several
times fleeing Mrs. Watkins’ house.
The police questioned Mrs. Den-
ny for 2 hours and then sent .her
to a hospital for observation and
treatment, saying they would ques-
tion her further later. They said,,
no charge had. been brought
against her.
City *nd county suthorities in
a joint statement said Mrs. Den-
ney told them she remembers
someone screaming and also re-
members pulling a gun from un-
der her piliow and fired some
shots, but does not remember
anything about them. She then
fled from the house.

Johnson Says
Highway Bill
To Help Texans
Washington, Apr. 7 W-Sena-
tor Lyndon Johnson estimates
that the highway bill approved
before the Easter recesS of con-
gress may provide more than
46.000 jobs in Texas.
He says the housing bill by
congress also will help offset un-
employment and applauded both
measures as what he calls “im-
portant parts of the program . . .
to turn the economy upward^
His views were expressed in a
weekly broadcast pre p a r e d for
Texas radio stations.
Johnson says similar benefits
may be expected from legislature
to provide more money for com-
munity faci li t i e s adminstraiion
loans to finance public improve-
ments. TH* funds would be advan-
ced to local and state agencies for
water, sewer and ether projects.
The Senate majority leader says
the highway bill “means more than
46.000 lobs, figured on a man-year
basis, can be provided in T«xaa.”
He added, “We can start con-
struction of 4,860 miles of new
roads in Texas this yesr. . -That
is one thousand more miles of
roads and highways then were
built in our state in 1957.
Johnson says the total include*
360 miles in the interftate high-
way system, 2,000 miles of pri-
mary *nd secondary iroutea and
2,500 miles of farm to market
roads.
