The National Safety Coun-
cil reported today that traffic
accidents during the first elev-
en months of this year took
37,140 lives, the highest ever
for January through Novem-
ber.
Worst eleven - month period
before was in 1941 when 35,-
829 persons were killed.
The safety council’s records
showed November was the 13th
straight month which was an
increase over the number kill-
ed in the corresponding month

Four cars of a Missouri - Kan-
sas - Texas freight train, en
route from Kansas City to
Houston, were derailed before
dawn about 15 miles east of La-
Grange.
The derailment, which occur-
