"ho Farmers Market has been regard-
ed by agricultural workers and interest-
ed farmers as the next logical step in the
development of Hopkins County's agricul-
tural economy.
This area i* a natural one for growing
vegetables and fruit. A substantial bu«i
ness of this nature is now being carried on
by farmers in the south part of the county.-,
Much more could be done, especially with
the fast-spreading use of irrigation, if
good marketing facilities existed for the
products that are raised.
Farmers markets of the type contem-
plated In Sulphur Springs have been de-
veloped in several Rust Texas cities with
noteworthy success. There is every rea-
son to believe this pattern could be dupli-
cated here. The productive capacity is
available. There are no other competi-
tive market- In Ibis immediate vicinity,
leaving u wide area to serve. Plenty of
interest exists. A line site has been acquir-
ed.
The next step ,is to luhld the market
itself, i hat is what will succeed or fail'
on the outcome of the campaign now get
ting started The I'armeis Market de
serves the support ol both the farmers
who will use it and the business men who
are interested III the siine^s of agricul-
tural in lids aiea Tin- project looms as
another strategic opportuoitv for the de-
velopment of Hopkins t'onnty.
