TU Electric To
Refund Customers
TU Electric filed an application
with Public Utility Commission
March 27 asking authorization to
refund about $50 million, including
interest, to its customers.
The amount the company is asking
to refund was overcollected from Aug-
ust 1990 through February 1991, pri-
marily because weather in the com-
pany's service area was milder than
normal during that period.
When weather is milder than nor-
mal, customers use less electricity.
Therefore, TU Electric is able to use
less of its higher-priced fuel supplies
to meet customers' needs.
Under the company's proposal, the
refund would be made in May through
a credit to bills. Residential customers
who use 1,000 kilowatt-hours would
receive refunds averaging about $12.
The exact refund month will depend
on when PUC approval is received.
TU Electric provides electric service
in 87 counties in Texas to more than
2.1 million customers, or about one-
third of the state's population.
