the Gaudaloupo mountains The posse
knowing the character ot the men decided
to give them no chance for escape When
they came upon the camp at night tho
posso poured hot lead Into the sleeping
robbers killing Bill Nlto and another man
and desperately wounding a third one
Tho third man was supposed to bo Jim
NteTho accused subsequently was arrested
and taken to Longview He was recover-
ing from a desperate wound at the time
On a change of venue the else was trans-
ferred to Tjler for trial Nlte was found
guilty as charged and punishment assessed
at a life term In the penitentiary Ho was
granted n new trial and escaped Jail the
day preceding the opening day of tho fall
term of tho court He was capttued in
Eddy N M surrendered to tho Texas au-
thorities on requisition taken back to Ty-
ler and the case was transferred to Hen
dorson for trial on chan 0 of venue
The only survivor of the Dalton gang
is a native of Bexar county and rode the
range as cowboy for years He is about
28 years of age Ho Is a cripple for life
as tho result of a wound received four
or five years ago while resisting arrest by
Rangers in West Texas his wounds carno
near proving fatal He Is ratter good
looking a little over six feet tall weight
100 pounds stands erect and in dress is a
tvplcal cowboy of the Southwest He has
