The Cattlemens Association
came up with another good pro.
gram last week. Seth Ford, of
Tyler, discussed management and
the new cross-bred program for
this area. One of the most inter,
esting statements he made was
that at weaning time a call should
weigh at least half as much as
the dam. This rang a bell as;
far as most people were concern-
ed Most everyone present have !
or have had a cow that wouldn't
weigh over 800 pounds but would j
wean a 500 pound calf each year I
Then everyone was familiar with
a 1300 pound cow that wouldn't]
wean a 400 pound calf Which1
cow ate the most grass and hay?
Which cow made the moel
money?
Some people have the mistak- j
en idea that the Cattlemen's As-!
sociation is only for the large
rancher Nothing could be less
true. The association t* for every '
one that owns a cow or is inter- j
ested in cattle. This is a self,
help, self-education organization, I
The Government or ai.v other j
body hasn't a thing to dc with |
the way it is run The pro frame (
are selec ted by the member*.
These programs are designed to
make the cattle business more
profitable Beef cattle, this year,
produced an estimated gross in-
come of $1139,400 for Rains Coun-
ty Why pot make a practice of
attending the meeting each
month?
