Bi&H it Is not at all as long as it
may appear to tie. Tlie prayers
and psalms that comprise it are
of unsurpassed beauty. There is
nothing sentimental about them.
In fact, there are lines that , arje
rugged in the extreme. Though
In us© thousands of years ago,
there is nothing outdated • in
tbiem. Consider the lines of the
Canticle “Who is she that comes
forth as the morning star rising,
fair as the moon, bright as the
sun, terrible as an army set in
battle array?" Powerful in by-
gone ages and still powerful as
the battle cry of the world-re-
nowned Legion cf Mary.
But the psalms also express
very profound sentiments which
touch the depths of human na-
ture: “Thou hast made man a
little lower than the angels—
Thou hast crowned him with
glory and honour”. “Our God is
our refuge and our strength, a
helper in . troubles which have
come upon us heavily'. Not a
wdrd is wasted and every line
carries its full weight and im-
plication. Meditation on the
psalms of the Little Office is a
source of real joy and the daily
recitation will cause ' your love
Cor them to increase. The daily
Office is like the theme''song
of Carmelites everywhere salut-
ing their Queen and Mother.
