of the general assembly of the South-
ern Presbyterian church Tuesday tha
committee to whom was iqferred tha
report of tho ad interim committee
of conference on closer relations with
other Presbyterian churches appoint-
ed by tho assembly at Mobile In 1904

byteries of Central Mississippi Chos

sissippi and Western Texas reported
that nfler carefully considering the
papers from tho abovo named plares
that tho would recommend the general
assembly commend the fidelity and dil
igence of the committor on closer re
lations and that tho assembly con
tinue the committee on close relations
with Presbyterian and Reformed
churches and authorize their confer-
ence with similar committees of such
churches Bhould they be appointed
with a view of perfecting a plan of co-
operation and that the results of such
conferences bo submitted to the gener-
al assembly at Its next meeting
Tho report also recommends that
tho committee on closer relations be
Instructed to give due consideration
to all suggestions and criticisms that
may bo offered and that tho moder-
ator of the general assembly be added
to tho committee and that ho shall
by appointment add to said commit
tee one from each synod not now rep
resented In tho committee
Tho matter was set for discussion
at the morning session of tho assem
bly and It Is expected that somo time
will bo taken up bororo action is tak-
en The most interesting question that
came up for discussion Tesday wag
the report from the committee on bills
and overtures on an overture fron
tho Montgomery presbytery asking
that a committee be appointed to con
fer with similar committees from other
churches to confer on tho matter of
marriage and divorce
The overture made mention of the
alarming number of divorces thnt
were being granted In this countiy
every year and the easo with which
they may be obtained and recommend-
ed that something bo dono in this mat
ter to prevent tho evil The discussion
took up nearly all the time of tho
morning session and it was finally de-
cided that a committee will be ap-
pointed It will not bo instructed in
any way
The moderator read a telegram from
the general assembly of tho Northern
Presbyterian church In session at
Winona Lake Ind acknowledging the
fraternal greetings from tMs commit-
tee and sending
congratulations
