Ranch Week Activities Begin
Fifteen Students

On Tuesday, October
20, 15 students took
their Prelirainaiy Scho-
1 a stic Aptitude Tests.
The PSAT is a short-
er version of the Scho-
ol lastic Aptitude Test,
which is required of
many applicants for ad-
mission to many col-
leges, Both the P3AT
and the SAT measure
abilities that are very
important in college
level work: the abil-
ity to read, to use
and understand words
and to reason with
words and numbers. The
scores which are ob-*-
talned on the PS IT can
be used to make an es-
timate as to what a
person’s SAT scores
will be. The scores,
combined with other
information, may also
be used to judge whe-
ther one should attend
college and to which
college one should ap-
ply for admissions.

Backdrop
Now the students
and faculty of Archer
City schools will not
feel ashamed when the
public comes to some
function in the school
auditorium. New cur-
tains for the back and
sides of the stage have
been purchased at a
cost of $l+80. T hey
are of new Oxford Repp
and are of beige color-
ing.
Ranch Week preparations
began with the selection
of each class’s representa-
t ives for king and queen.
C a.ndidates selected were
Judy McMurtry and Lannie
Yeager—Seniors, Kathy Seay
and Harold Smitson—Juni-
ors , Renee Mayes and Jimmy
Davis—Sophomores, and Kin>-
b ra O’Keefe and Bob Gaines
- — Freshman.
Because of several acti-
v ities during Ranch Week,
the Junior and Senior
classes held their day
downtown on Monday and
T h.ursday, respectively.
The Juniors served hot
dogs for their noon meal
Student Council
Gives Dark Shades
The Student Council
donated some dark
shades for the audi-
torium, so that it can
be made dark for the
showing of films.
These shades cost
the Student Council
$152.10, and this mon-
ey was raised last
year from a coffee and
cake sale which was
organized by Mrs. E.T,
Bledsoe, and also from
the candy and coke ma-
chines in the school,
Donny Linscott was
president of Student
Council last year, and
Mike Stewart was the
vice-president.
Quite frequently we
hear students ask,
nWhat can the school
give us?” Now an or-
ganization turns in
the other dire ction
and contributes to the
school. Thank you,
I Student Council!IJ
and ended their day with a
chili supper. The class
plans to have the House of
Horrors, Marriage Booth,
Talent Show, and a Hat Sale
a t the Carnival.
The Senior class served
coffee and donuts through-
out the morning and had
hamburgers for lunch. To
climax their day, the class
had a salad supper, with
meat, vegetable, fruit, and
c o ngealed salads b ei ng
s e rved. The Seniors will
have the Pie Walk, Basket-
ball Throw, Bingo, and the
Booth of Skills,
The Freshmen will con-
duct their work day Monday,
October 26. They will be
serving coffee and donuts
downtown. The parents will

STUDENT COUNCIL
ELECTS OFFICERS
The Student Council
had its first meeting
Tuesday for the pur-
pose of electing their
officers. Danny Moore
presided as President.
The officers elected
were as follows: Judy
McMurtry — s e c r etary,
Glenda Lear--treasurer,
Renee Mayes--reporter,
Harold Smitson--parli~
mentarian, and Mickey
Ho rany--histo rian.
The parts of the con-
stitution per t aiming
to membership were dis-
cussed. Others attend-
ing the meeting were
Lannie Yeager, Raymond
Frerich, Danny Hall,
Jimmy Davis, Charles
Goforth, Connie Wright,
and Mike Atchley. Mr.
G a rdiner is their spon-
sor.
