Killed Cows for their Hides
For some time valuable cowb
belonging to people in the north
em part of the city have died or
disappeared strangely and with a
slight clue constable C H Proc-
tor bogUD to investigate in the mat-
ter which resulted in six or Beven
negro boys between the age of 16
and 20 being arrested and placed
in jail last Saturday and implicat-
ed in killing cattle
It seemB that the boys would
get cows out in the woods and
shoot them with a Btnall rifle and
they would die in a day or two
then the boys would go and skin
the cow and sell tho hide and as
bides are worth some six or eight
dollars now they begun quito a
traffic in this business The boys
sold so many hides that it aroused
suspicion of something wrongthen
some of the hides sold wore ident-
ified by owners of the missing
cows Some 15 or more cows have
been killed among them fine cows
for Genio Rains and Judge Rowell
A hearing was given the boys
Monday and five cases were found
against three of tho boyB Alfred
Hamilton Jim Garland Fred
BayliB and LouiB StevenBj no
caBes were found against the other
boys
