Is Welfare Worth It ? 1
By Lou McWhorter
The attitude of our government toward the
minority and the unemployed seems to be a
change for the worse. Many people are re-
ceiving large amounts of money to live on but
they are not working for it. People are get-
ting vast handouts for nothing. It seems un-
fair but what can be done?
Many workers in this country are beginning
to feel a bite in their pocketbooks. The bite
is a result of all the taxes that go for un-
necessary purposes. These workers are begin-
ning to wonder if it is worth spending^ all
their many hours <*at jobs and not receiving
these benefits as well. Some of these workers
have even stopped working to draw this unem--
ployment compensation,
1 In a country such as this, you would think,
the free enterprise system would take care of
the problem. Yet, even though we can earn as
much money as we like, under modern government
regulations, the productive worker must divide
his profits with the idCLo,
What can be done to stop this unfair gov-
ernment practice? /We, as a majority, . must
speak up for our rights too, and not let the
minority be the ruling body. If everyone work-
ed, it would be a much better place in which
to live.
