football squad
Wildcats
finished their 30 day Spring trains
ing period Monday with an inter-
squad game. Prospects for the com-
ing fall are good with all men
showing to good advantage. The
boys have worked hard and have
shown their willingness and desire
to field a champion team next fall;
however no team can have a success-
ful season' alone. It is my hope
that the student body ©f Archer
City High continue the fine support
of its athletic teams and gives us
the "12th man" which is (so import-
ant to a successful team.

THE HOUSE OF THE SEVEN GABLES
By
Nathaniel Hawthorne
True to his style of portraying
the inner meaning of men's lives
and the Puritan New England.of his
day, Hawthorne has written "The
House of the Seven Gables" in
which all this1 is felt.
Born in New England Hawthorne
was a quiet peaceful fellow who
loved to sit for long periods at a
time and think. "The House of the
Seven Gables" was one of his later
books and was eagerly read by
those who sought after him more
than he desired.
The hereditary curse resting
upon the Pyncheon family casts its
snell of mystery over the bid New
•England homestead--"The House of
the Seven Gables". The old place
is inhabited by four members of
the once aristocratic Pynoheons;
Hepzibah, a gentle soul, carrying
on the fine New England tradition;
Clifford, her brother, crushed by
circumstances; their cousin Judge
Pyncheon, the evil doer of the
story; and T-'hoebe, another cousin,
lovely as a wind-blown flower.
They are typical New England
people, repressed on the surface,
but with great emotional depths
stirring beneath that develop into
exciting drama in the story.
After many hard times, trials,
and tribulations the family in-
herits the evil cousins money, and
life flows more smoothly for the
remaining Pyncheons.
Hawthorne infects in this book
the same mystic atmosphere that
characterizes all of his writings.
"The House of the Seven Gables"
is truly worth reading, enjoying,
and remembering.
