SMOKinG: A FOOL'S PARADISE
by Michael F .11
It seems to be the trend today to see how
many packs of cigarettes one can smoke and
openly brag of consumption. This is fine if
you want shortened life. It is believed
that each cigarette shortens life span by
twenty days. If you smoke a pack a day, you
lose over a year of gracious living. Are those
tobacco, cellulose, and paper "cancer-tubes”
really worth it? Life is so plentiful you can
sell over a year of it for thirty cents. That
is something to really think about.
When asked why they smoke, teen-agers will
give bout the same answer; "It c alms me
down." What they should say Is, "I am insecure.
I want to look older." Smoking is a strange
thing. The freshman emulates the senior and
the senior emulates the adult smoker. If the
senior would wake up and see that the adult is
being just as childish as he thinks the fresh-
man is, he would save himself much undue misery
in later years.
Besides saving a body, the smoker can save
money if he will simply awaken to the idea
that he is harming himself. The medical re-
port recently issued on smoking is not merely
heresay. It is evidence backed up by scienti-
fic findings. Do not disregard the warning.
If you should happen to dismiss the report,
think about this; Do you place such little
value on your life that you would sell it for
thirty cents a year? ______

And knows not that he

Is a fool—shun him.

Is asleep—wake him.
